Aussie Pickers – A Short Review
Aussie Pickers was pleasant viewing which did not deviate from the format of the popular US version of the show.
The premiere episode saw hosts Lucas Callaghan and Adam McDonald go to the Riverina to “pick”. Picking is when they look through peoples junk to find a treasure which they sell on. Half of the people they visited could have been a candidate for an Australian version of hoarders.
The hosts were likeable and knowledgeable however Lucas needs to toughen up first he was worried about high tight spaces and then he was quaking at a sheep. Quite frankly I would have been more worried about a snake or pack of rats jumping out of them as they went through the stuff.
Adam McDonald clearly has a fetish for industrial lights as he was picking up a few but not sure his Sydney clients will be thrilled when they see the mark up he is putting on.
The pickers have been well cast and are engaging particularly with the banter between themselves and people they are visiting.
One of the weirdest places they visited was a farm where the ladies father-in-law died 30 years ago and they had not emptied or done anything with his homestead. In fact there was vegetation growing throughout it. You would have thought they would find some gems. However all they bought was a teddy bear and a cricket bat for a total of $35.
Will I watch it again? Maybe on a light viewing night possibly. For people who like Bargain Hunt, Antique Roadshow and the American version of this show they should really like Aussie Pickers.
What I do know is that I have now series linked the show after it Duck Dynasty as that was hilarious.
Aussie Pickers on A&E TV on Thursday nights at 7.30pm. Also look out for repeats during the week.
