Masterchef Australia – Two Eliminations Some Diners Must Have Gone Home Hungry

The producers must have been not happy when they saw Michael plate up raw chicken as there was no way he could not be eliminated. One of the shows early narrator’s and villains was gone. It was a pity as he had the ability to grate on his fellow contestants and the viewer, in summary, he was giving good reality TV.

However Clarissa looks like she is fully prepared to step into his boots. The trained opera is not popular with her fellow contestants. There is her singing, her constant talking about nothing, and what woud appear to be her rudeness “that’s my spot” when there was vacant chair right beside the taken chair.

Also for a 43 year old woman she acts quite childlike and does not appear to notice just how annoying she is.

She and Michael were two of the six contestants up for elimination last night. The others were Andrew,  Xavier, Daniel, and Noelene and the pressure was on as two were being flicked.

The challenge was to cook with the protein that had put them in the bottom six in the first place. The girls had lamb, Michael and Andrew chicken, and Xavier and Daniel seafood. They had two and half hours make a dish to feed twenty people.

Clarissa was doing a rack of lamb but appeared to not know what to do with it and kept on asking an increasingly pissed off Noelene questions. Noelene’s mood was probably not helped by the very bad case of sunburn she had. In the end she just ignored her or as much as she could because of her constant noise and chatter with Gary egging her on.

Clarissa was shrieking about a wasp and Gary told her it won’t kill her, and Noelene glanced to camera”if only”.

Her lack of cooking knowledge was not just limited to lamb she also did not know a blackened hot pan was a negative thing.

Michael who thinks his cooking ability is better then it is was making a dustpan chicken which included smoking the chicken first with eucalyptus leaves taken off the dining table and he told a person off camera they would have to redo the table. I am sure they were thrilled…

However his issue was it appeared he had never cooked a chicken in the oven before and thought it would only take half an hour. Why when all the dishes are served cold anyway didn’t he just put it in earlier. It was a mess and it was nowhere near being cooked. Also the cous cous salad he served with it was ordinary.

He knew he was gone say “If I survive this then Lazarus will have had a triple by pass”.

Gary described Clarissa’s lamb as underdone but really it was raw in the middle that was not juice oozing out of it. That was blood. Also one of the diners was heard to say her potatoes were hopeless.

Noelene presented a beautiful looking lamb curry with all the vegetables and considering she could not get her potatoes in the oven she did a great job of cooking them.

Andrew was safe with a very nice Coq Au Vin, however Michael’s ash from his smoking had landed in his mashed potato so he had to ditch it. Thankfully he was not criticised for that.

Daniel who was seen again shirtless in the episode, was making a Pasta with Prawn and Flathead Sauce. However in the end there was no pasta just prawns in a tomato sauce. Why didn’t he grab some polenta and cous cous at the last minute and serve it with that?

However lucky for  Daniel fellow buddy Xavier made a flavourless  thai green curry and was eliminated. Xavier is looking for work in kitchen and is hoping to open his own restaurant one day. Don’t they all.

Michael gave a motivational farewell speech from The Shawshank Redemption saying “get busy living or get busy dying, I know what I will be doing” again showing why his personality/arrogance will be missed from the show. He revealed he wants to open a wine and tapas bar beside his cinema. Hopefully he will get someone else to cook in it.

The girls comprehensively won the gender wars and their prize was to decide house rules. Christina immediately said Daniel will need to get his shirt on. Why? Was she worried she might ditch her girlfriend and be tempted to be with a guy again?

Masterchef Australia on TEN from Sunday to Thursday at 7.30pm.

He he he. That is why I can’t go on to MC. I don’t cook red meat. Big fail. LOL

2 brain dead dave { 06.13.13 at 11:13 pm }

Ma$terchef will give you a pig carcass to impale if you don’t eat red meat …like Deb last year.

3 Littlepetal { 06.13.13 at 11:18 pm }

I can handle pig but not lamb or beef. Just put me in the cold room and I will be throwing all over Matt P. His cravat will come in handy.

4 Veronica { 06.13.13 at 11:22 pm }

I’ve never pin boned or filleted a fish, used a pressure cooker, tempered chocolate or made pasta. So, do you think I should apply for next season?

5 Littlepetal { 06.13.13 at 11:25 pm }

Veronica, you fit in beautifully.

6 brain dead dave { 06.13.13 at 11:26 pm }

Oh, you can have an ammunity pin right now,Veronica. You’re the real deal.

7 Veronica { 06.13.13 at 11:46 pm }

My back story will need some work ~ no where near tragic enough.

I agree with Damien – the producers/or judges selected these contestants so they knew that their abilities were limited. Yes, they put themselves forward, but doesn’t mean they needed to be picked. I am sure in previous years that average cooks auditioned, but they decided to go with the better cooks.

The whole focusing on the stories would have worked better if the contestants could actually cook too. Yes, it creates drama when there are things to pick on and the contestants allegedly break down, but it seems as though most people here liked Masterchef best when it showed us good cooking and the judges were positive (season 1 was the best – remember poor Sam?? At least he didn’t cop it as bad as this lot have so far). These days they always seem too nasty and condescending and it’s just awkward to watch. Why do we want to watch people being put down on national TV night after night? I think they have got it all wrong this season.

Hopefully we can see some better cooking as the show goes on. Feels as though we have mostly seen the guys cook, however it is the female contestants that seem more irritating (yes, especially Clarissa).

9 Eliza { 06.14.13 at 1:15 am }

Veronica, you sound like a star contestant to me, too! I hope that you’ve never made pastry before, or, in that case, not made many things before so you can cook them for the first time on the show?

10 Andrea { 06.14.13 at 7:30 am }

Maybe the producers saw how successful MKR was and are trying to appeal to the more average cooks out there, completely forgetting that their show is called “Masterchef and we expect to see more .”
MKR always maintained that their show was for good cooks, not Masterchefs.

11 Moonstruck { 06.14.13 at 8:07 am }

It is telling/understandable now why they have dropped the Tuesday immunity challenge with chefs. This group would not be able to even cook following a recipe. What happened to Matt Moran? Not a judge this year?
I thought they used to not give long enough for the challenges but 2 1/2 hours was excessive. Leg of lamb can be cooked in under an hour and a half and even if you have to peel the potatoes an hour should be long enough. Clarissa’s potatoes looked like they were mashed when she was turning them over.
MKR contestants had bad cooks but rated through the roof. Maybe the producers thought that was what the viewers wanted. After all Masterchef professionals was a ratings failure and that had excellent cooks/chefs.

12 Joseph Skyrim { 06.14.13 at 9:32 am }

Maybe they just have slim(mer) pickings on people willing to go to Melb? Anywho best part of masterclass last night was that “the smear is dead!” LOL 😛

13 Sandii { 06.14.13 at 9:40 am }

Maybe the contestants can put a meal in the ol’crockpot (slow cooker)and spend the episode telling us about all their back stories. Shouldn’t let cooking interfere with a good yarn.

14 Ryan { 06.14.13 at 9:48 am }

If Clarissa keeps it up, we might just see the first live homicide on reality TV. God she must be hell to room with.

15 Littlepetal { 06.14.13 at 9:50 am }

Ssndii, that is a pretty good idea. We can learn more about the contestants since this show is not about cooking.

16 Sandii { 06.14.13 at 10:17 am }

Hi Littlepetal, truth be known, as a farmers wife I probably wouldn’t mind seeing some slow cooker recipes but perhaps not on MC.

17 Moonstruck { 06.14.13 at 12:28 pm }

Great news about the smear Joseph Skyrim. Perhaps I’ll watch the Masterclass just to hear that.
Presentation has has also been lacking so far this season.

Micheal ‘speaks the mans language if you know what I mean’ was 100% Bark – serving UNCOOKED chicken with 2.5H of prep time.. Break the chicken down and have a lot of different chicken dishes – stealing set items from the table is an armature move.

Micheal smoking also affected another contestants mash – worst cook ever on all MC series (NZ UK US included as well?) charcoal/outdoors cooking too equestrian for MC caliber.

Opera singer should have been auto thrown out due to dangerous running around with knife in hand – MC endorses such behavior? Under cooked Lamb for Judges dodged a bullet there that the butchers piece was perfect. manic annoying talks way too much.. the Omerossa of MC.

Deb was a royal pain in the ass whatever series that was – no tears were used when she FINALLY left. At least the stubborn 3X married contestant listened (Unlike Micheal 30 mins cold chicken too short to cook) to the judges. Great turn around on potatoes without oven space, nice improvisation.

Daniel got by the skin of his shirt with a good seafood dish – has a lot of improvement to do. Might be contracted eye candy as some have pointed out, yet the girls house rule #1 was shirt on Daniel – who cares as long as he isn’t shirtless while cooking?

Xavier had potential but bland green curry isn’t up too snuff.

Maggie overused on MC?

Judges have been going downhill since S3 – far too negative – time for judging change? All tastings should be blind for individual challenges – Judges can’t be trusted to be objective always have fav members.

19 jinx { 06.24.13 at 5:57 am }

ridiculous. honestly haven’t seen a dish yet that I think was spectacular except for Christina’s layer lolly cake.
