bourdain the taste

Anthony Bourdain has been nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Reality TV Host for his role on food show The Taste. He has previously been nominated for non-fiction writing but the first time for his work on camera. He will be up against Ryan Seacrest, American Idol, Betty White, Betty White’s Off Their Rockers, Tom Bergeron, Dancing With The Stars, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, Project Runway, and Cat Deeley, So You Think You Can Dance.

Even though I am a huge fan of Bourdain, I hope Cat Deeley gets the nod this year.

Looking at that list Raver, are you able to tell us when the following gems are likely to appear on Australian tele?:
– Diners, Drive-Ins And Dives
– The Dust Bowl.

I went to The Dust Bowl website. Looks super: http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/dustbowl

Once again the Emmys turn up some head-scratching nominations and snubs. The universally hated finale for Survivor Caramoan gets a directing nod for spending half of its broadcast featuring Contestants not featured on that season?

I note that Dimples, again, was overlooked for an Emmy nomination for his hosting role as was the show, Survivor – which arguably had two strong seasons the past year (after boring editions in Nicaragua, Resemption Island, and One World). The rules governing the Emmys are not perfect. One episode can only be submitted as representative of the merits of the show/host/performer/director/editor/etc. Was surprised that Survivor Caramoan did not get a nod as the very entertaining episode in which Malcolm took down the Specialist was the episode submitted for Emmys consideration.

No surprise that Dimples got snubbed again as he seemed to spend more time bitching about how badly some contestants performed in challenges (in these last two seasons) than actually being a good host. Not sure what episode was submitted on his behalf. I would be disappointed though if he missed out on a nomination if that episode (where Brandon Hantz had that scary meltdown and was “mentally evacuated”) was the one submitted for consideration. For all of his snarky passive-aggressive behaviour these past two seasons, Dimples deserves credit on how he diffused the situation plus helped inject context whilst keeping the drama moving.
