Big Brother Australia – An Older Contestant Announced

Sharon a 41 year old mother of three is entering the house and it looks like it will give her a welcome break from her young kids.

What I like about this contestant is that she does not appear to be seeking a media/entertainment career post the show all she wants is the cash.

Also the crew is getting the Big Brother house ready with The Age journalist, Nathan Oliveri writing about being in the house for 24 hours.  It’s a good article.

He said that it was very easy and quick to forget about the cameras and microphone.

The producers also told him he would not make a great contestant.

He wrote:

Reality television doesn’t smile kindly on the introverted, silent types … or as executive producer Chris Blackburn frankly remarks after I spend 24 hours in the Big Brother house: ”Mate, you’d only have been good for pensive cutaways.”

Also it was interesting how they decide what we see:

At the apex sits series director Mark Adamson, now in his eighth year, who talks me through the daily filtering process. Layers upon layers of producers assess every scene across the day, bestowing a rating of one to five stars. The so-called ”hot scenes” make their way up the chain, double and triple-checked, until they reach the daily show producers, who weave a narrative thread through the scenes and represent the temperature of the house. Voice-overs are penned and a show is born.

Hopefully they won’t be censoring it as the did in the current season in the US, which created a media storm when some of the contestants racist and homophobic comments were not being aired. The contestants were getting a different edit, and it was only that it was picked up on the live web stream.

After the media out cry some other footage was shown. Interesting the name of the girl saying most of the stuff is Aaryn. See below.

You can’t spell ‘Aryan’ without ‘Aaryn’.

Finally, someone who looks like we can relate to!

This year’s US contestants are absolutely vile. Racist, homophobic, and just all around unpleasant people they have there.

Thanks for that RR, I quite enjoyed The Age article. I am supposing there are going to be the haves and the have nots in the house and some sort of screen to divide them. This will create enormous animosity. I really have no idea, just tossing it out there.

What a horrible person, is she for real? Is that what you call a red neck? I can’t believe none of them are saying anything to her.
I really didn’t think people like that existed.
Where’s Golo when you need him.
Imagine if we had one of them on our BB?

Re Sharon: I wouldn’t have been able to leave my young kids for what could be weeks or months.
As much as it was nice to have short breaks, I’d get withdrawals if it was more than a couple of days.

The aeoroplane jelly man is on T. It reminds me of a bit of family history. Some of you might recall the jingle for Amgoorie Tea; “To get the best out of your teapot, ……” That was my mum.

I just hope she is a bit more than a wife and mother, otherwise she is going to be as boring as hell.

9 daisy { 07.26.13 at 10:22 am }

DDD what a tribute to the hard working wives and mothers of the world! You’re all boring.
They might have jobs that can be thankless and repetitive but they still have identities and personalities.
When I see some of the crap citizens that are being spewed out we ought to prize that there are men and women who still make massive sacrifices to raise their kids.

Er it wasn’t meant to apply to everyone, just to Sharon who so far has only been identified as a wife and mother, as if she doesn’t exist as a separate entity.

Choosing to go on BB doesn’t automatically make you a heroine, I’ll save my “prizing” for people who make real sacrifices.

11 daisy { 07.26.13 at 11:32 am }

OK :)

12 Andrea { 07.27.13 at 3:43 pm }

Another housemate just announced is a 30 year old unemployed guy who says he’s a nerd,called Ben, hope he’s nicer than the last Ben!

13 daisy { 07.27.13 at 4:33 pm }

Andrea, you are a wealth of BB information. Only 2(?) days to go?

14 Andrea { 07.27.13 at 5:15 pm }

Just google up Big Brother Australia 2013, you can see a video of what Ben looks like and the inside of the house.
I think they add different stuff every day, its interesting.
Ben likes living alone and his favourite album is the Bert and Pattie Family album.

15 daisy { 07.27.13 at 7:27 pm }

Thanks Andrea, so far they look like a bit of a mix. The ex soldier is an interesting one.
Woolif is as much of a fan of BB as I am so it’s good to have someone to get mad at the TV with me. 😉

16 Andrea { 07.27.13 at 8:07 pm }

What did you think of Ben?

17 Carole { 07.28.13 at 11:38 am }

There’s a poll going around about who the best house mates have been and Ben was No 1. They must be kidding!!!!! I went on and voted for Reggie and Jess and Reggie went to No 1.

18 Gabby { 07.28.13 at 12:24 pm }

The poll must have been from people that haven’t watched other series and have no one else to compare the nasty, bully boy to.

19 Andrea { 07.28.13 at 12:35 pm }

Carole, how do we get on to this poll?

20 daisy { 07.28.13 at 1:17 pm }

So far I am holding back from forming any opinions on these contestants because I am waiting until I see them in action. However they want to present themselves in their promos may not be how they are in the house. But so far they do seem a bit of a mix, although I still think they need to go older than 41.
For diversity of race, I would like to see some Aboriginal hms from time to time. There’s always a big to do about having to have ‘new’ Australians represented but not so much attention given to representing the ‘old’ Australians. I think it would be great to see some Aboriginals.

21 brain dead dave { 07.28.13 at 1:30 pm }

The Aborigines….if only they’d been able to “Stop The Boats”.

22 daisy { 07.28.13 at 2:47 pm }

Good one.

23 Carole { 07.29.13 at 2:47 pm }

Sorry, Andrea it looks like the poll is finished. It’s a UK site that are covering the Aussie Big Brother. They have a new poll now asked what the twist is.
