Masterchef Australia – Cooking With The Sharks

It was a service challenge for the elimination challenge at the Atlantis Hotel where one of those restaurants was under the sea.

The six contestants would have choose one dish to cook out of two entrees, two mains and two desserts. They got to randomly which order they could pick their dishes. With Lynton getting to go first as he picked he Beef dish, Christina picked the crab with potato and burnt butter, Samira the quail, Kelty the Date Ice-cream and camel milk pannacotta, and Lucy grabbed the chocolate dessert which left Rishi with the fish main.

They had three hours prep time which they found out was not long at all when you had to slice up steak, cook and pick out crab meat, debone fish and slice up quail.

It was interesting that the second challenge of the Dubai trip did not really have a lot of Middle Eastern flavour about it. It was more a high end international cuisine type food. I would have liked to have seen some more traditional food/cooking. Italy week last year all of the challenges were based on the local cuisine.

Christina was slow on prep as was Lynton. Kelty and Lucy on desserts never looked like they were under stress.

Christina buried her dish under a mound of potato foam which drowned the flavour of the crab. Whilst Lynton had not prepped one of his elements, the potato croquette, however feedback from the dining room was positive for him. He replaced it with mash.

Rishi, Lucy and Kelty were praised for their dishes and Lynton and Christina were bottom two. Interesting that Samira wasn’t as Matt Preston had pulled a “meh” face when he had tasted her quail.

It was one vote each from George and Matt on who should be eliminated, and then Gary asked the question “Why do you need to be here?”. Judge on the dish Gary not who has the most compelling back story. The viewer then heard the monologue from Lynton about how his life has fallen apart due to losing his friend and also his sister being badly injured. What did this have to do with cooking?

Christina was not much better taking out photos of her kids and showing the judges.

After Masterchef had milked these emotional moments it was decided neither of them would be eliminated.

Wasn’t home & forgot to pre tape. What happened? Another dissapointing hour?

Did they show Paris & Jowlsy’s ‘friends’?

Another It’s A Knockout challenge running around the city and not having any idea how many people to cook for. What a nonsense. I really do understand that in a commercial restaurant, chefs are under enormous pressure and it’s really quick and stressful and horrible and all that, but these dial-in, run-around, no-idea challenges don’t seem to replicate that feeling of stress urgency appropriately – if that’s even the point of them!
I have always assumed that they make these challenges difficult to prepare the ‘chefs’ for a life in a proper kitchen, but the conditions aren’t analogous. This is getting ridiculous. I’m almost off this bandwagon but I can’t leave before I know who wins.
And yay, Keltynator! I’m totally Pro-Kelty now. Anti-Emma (boring), meh Lucy.

Reading this story, it seemed M Preston found Lynton beef dish too rare but we didn’t get to see it. Thus Lynton should have been eliminated but were saved by the judges.

We are shopping for a compact sized workplace for our office.

Just not sure if I should go for a standard desk or to find something which is integrated with
our other dining room furniture (

Why not install a portaloo? They’re nice and compact and would allow you to go about your business while you do your business. Kills two turds with one stone!
