Muslim Shore – A Reality TV Satire

image002 (1)

Muslim Shore is a show that SBS could only get away with making and screening. It is a spoof on popular and schlocky reality TV shows Jersey Shore and Geordie Shore.

Basically you are either going to love it or hate it. If you are a fan of Fat Pizza you will probably like the humour, but to be honest this did not tickle my funny bone.

You can check out an extended preview here.

Here is what the press release says:

SBS debuts the outrageous new reality show Muslim Shore

Seven Muslims, one house, unlimited prayer

Begins Monday 23 September at 9.30pm on SBS ONE

Reality TV meets social experiment when seen Muslim Australians are given the keys to a party house with no rules in SBS’s all-new reality series Muslim Shore.

In the same vein of Jersey Shore and Geordie Shore, Muslim Shore brings outrageous, can’t-look-away drama to the screens, with a uniquely SBS twist.

This wild new series captures all the tantrums, love triangles and tears that arise as cameras follow the every move of seven Muslim Australians who have become instant housemates. Their faith will be challenged like never before when both feisty personalities and beliefs collide.

These housemates won’t just be playing together, they’ll be praying together too.

“DTF means down to fast. Michelle was totally DTF. We all were – it’s Ramadan, what do you expect?” – Mohammad, Muslim Shore.

Introducing the larger-than-life cast:

Lamees is a hijabi honey with strong opinions who is ready to stir things up in the house.

Aziz is a DJ with a totally shredded body whose main motivation to go to mosque is to pick up chicks. However Aziz has a dark secret to reveal; one which will shock the house to its core.

Ayman is a mummy’s boy whose favourite type of girl is really just anyone his mum likes.

Ayman’s mum, Aunty Shiyama has moved into the Muslim Shore pad, and has brought her very traditional values along for the ride. She’s ready to wave her finger disapprovingly at the housemates’ behaviour, but might just be using her time to scout out a nice Muslim girl to marry her son off to.

Laid-back Mohammad is an average “Mussie” guy trying to play by the rules of his religion. His obsession with Australia might just rub other housemates the wrong way. He’s totally ‘DTF’ – ‘down to fast’ for Ramadan.

Michelle is an over-zealous convert to Islam and exhibits typical symptoms of ‘Convertitis’. She is strong-headed and would like to be known by her new name, Maymoona. However, she is still trying to work out exactly what is halal and haram, and the exact direction of Mecca.

Shazrina is reserved and shy as hell. Given her first taste of independence, Shazrina might just be the “good-girl-who-gone-wild”, once let loose in the Muslim Shore house.

Legally Brown, featuring Muslim Shore, premieres Monday 23 September, 9.30pm on SBS

Won’t be surprised if this show bombs.

The List interviewed the creator of this show – I wasn’t planning to tune in but will now. He’s an islamic comedian – some of the stuff was quite funny. He talked about a skit (can’t remember if it was part of this show or another) – where they were rocking up with a truckload of 12 people that various companies had “ordered” (actors pretending to be asylum seekers) and gauging people’s responses to how much they were willing to help

For a fist of dollars and meaningless popularity .. so called Muslim actors and writers are willing to sale there faith and make it into a joke for cheap laughters .. the show is tasteless, meaningless and if the Muslims in Australia have any dignity and pride .. they will reject this nonsense .. and stop this show .
