Is Darren Lyons Going To Be Australia’s Arnie Schwarzenegger?

Normally people go from being politicians to reality TV stars not going from being a reality TV star to being a politician. But in the case of Darren Lyons he has managed to achieve this.

On the weekend Darren was voted in a Mayor of Geelong. In a large field he received nearly 30 percent of the primary vote.  Darren is best known as being a celebrity photographer who has his own Paparazzi agency here and in the UK. He also was on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK as well as Celebrity Apprentice Australia. He is quite flamboyant and before his time in the Big Brother house got a six pack implanted into his abdomen. It was not a great look but was amusing.

If this is the start of his political career who can tell and maybe he will do an Arnie and become Premier of Victoria? What we do know is there will be far more coverage of Geelong local politics in the press for the next four years.

First Clive Palmer and now this guy.
Could Australian politics get any more cartoonish? –

Clive Palmer is the feature on 4 Corners tonight btw. Should be a laugh.

Well, Darren Lyons has binned the multi-coloured mohawk at least. Great for Geelong to have a mayor who owns a string of nightclubs in that city. I smell a rat in there somewhere.

I live in Geelong. This place certainly needs to be rid of the old guard/boys club. The last mayor was elected about a year ago. A ‘decent’ well respected business man from a successful family business that’s been around for about 50 years or something, well known. Faggs Mitre 10, on The Block when the Geelong couple were on. Memory fails me!! He stepped down from illness, caused by the complete and utter corruption of this council. They’re all big fish in a small pond around here, and that’s the way they like it. Hopefully with Lyons having been somewhat of a bigger fish in a bigger pond he can facilitate some positive change for the region. God knows Geelong is in a great spot but much broader vision is needed.
