Charles Saatchi Accuses Ex-Wife Nigella Of Being ‘High On Drugs’
The saga between Charles Saatchi and his ex-wife Nigella continues to become even more undignified with claims the celebrity television cook has been taking drugs for the past ten years including allegations she took cocaine daily, as well as Class B drugs and prescription medication. In even more shocking allegations is that she took drugs with her 19 year old daughter Cosima.
The details that were revealed in a court case where two former employees sisters Elizabetta and Francesca Grillo are being charged with misuse of fund and fraud. The amount involved is over $500,000. The defense is saying there had been an implicit agreement between the sisters and Nigella that they could spend the money if they did not reveal the extent of her drug abuse to her then husband Charles.
Charles also received a police caution earlier this year after physically assaulting his wife in a restaurant in Mayfair.
The Daily Mail reports:
Nigella Lawson was so ‘off her head’ on cocaine she let her two assistants blow £300,000 on taxis, flights and clothes, a court was told yesterday.
Dubbing her ‘Hi-gella’, her ex-husband Charles Saatchi accused her of poisoning her 19-year-old daughter Cosima with drugs and ‘trashing her life’.
The pair secured a divorce – and Mr Saatchi was cautioned by police – after he was pictured apparently trying to throttle the TV cook at a London restaurant in June.
But Isleworth Crown Court in West London yesterday heard claims she had a ‘guilty secret’ – habitual abuse of cocaine as well as class B and prescription drugs.
The allegations emerged as the court prepared to try her former assistants, Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo, for fraud.
The Grillos claim she let them spend wildly as long as they kept from her husband the truth about her and her daughter taking drugs. The court was told Mr Saatchi believes the sisters are innocent.
The prosecution calls these claims completely scurrilous. However it has not been helped by Charles Saatchi sent an email to Nigella calling her Hi-gella.
The email said Grillos ‘will get off on the basis that you and Mimi were so off your heads on drugs, you allowed the sisters to spend whatever they liked’.
In a letter to Miss Lawson released to the court, he said he was ‘concerned that Miss Lawson gave the defendants permission to use the accounts for personal purposes whilst under the influence of drugs and/or that Miss Lawson has no credible recollection of events as a result of drug abuse’.
The defence says the charges should be dropped because the Grillos are ‘innocent pawns’ in the battle between Mr Saatchi and Miss Lawson.
The full statements in which the Grillos make numerous detailed drug abuse allegations against Miss Lawson – and of which Mr Saatchi said he ‘believed every word’ – have not been read out in court and cannot be published for legal reasons.
Nigella is expected to take the stand at some stage. Both Charles and Nigella are worth millions she at least $30 million and he is worth even more. It is unclear why Nigella and Charles let this matter get to court as they both would know their business practices and their personal lives would be mentioned.
If it is true she has been taking drugs with her 19 year old daughter this could kill her brand however it does all seem a bit hard to believe and it will be interesting to see how Nigella responds.
She is currently on The Taste in the US and in the UK and on that panel is Anthony Bourdain who has also had his problems with drug addiction in his past.
What we do know is this soap opera still has another chapter in it.
