Survivor Blood V Water – Interview With Laura Boneham
Laura Boneham better known as Rupert’s wife had a tough time on Survivor Blood V Water being voted out her tribe in the first few minutes of the game. Rupert swapped with her to take her place at Redemption Island and she had to go into the returning players tribe, Gulong, which is always difficult. She actually did better than expected considering she never had a solid alliance and may have made the merge if she had not told Vytas he was the next to be eliminated. Tina heard of this and thought she was not trustworthy and she was gone.
In this interview we talk about Tina and whether she had a crush on Vytas, her alliances and would she do it all over again.
Reality Ravings: You spent most of your Survivor game basically clinging on to the game with your fingernails. First up you were targetted first up being voted out on the beach. Were you surprised by that?
Laura Boneham: I was very surprised and it was hard not to take it personally. At first thought it was because I am the old woman at 44 years old on this tribe of young people but I shortly realised it was probably because of my husband which is why they are targetting me to weaken his game.
RR: Were you surprised that Rupert swapped with you or you knew that is what he would do?
LB: I had a feeling that he would in that situation. He saw the look on my face of absolute shock that we came all this way and I may not be able to play this game and being his fourth time I was thrilled that he was able to give me the ultimate gift and enable me to play the game.
RR: You had a bit of a tough time – you were put on a tribe with returning players that were all pretty savvy. Did you try and make an alliance with some of them. What happened once you hit that tribe?
LB: Good old editing, they portrayed me as being more pitiful then I really was. I did feel like I had frieneds in the game and I did have an alliance with the men of Gulong and Tina. Gervase, Aras and Tyson and I were all in an alliance to begin with and then I had an alliance with the girls. But it was a challenge thinking they were having Rupert on their team and then having myself so I had expectations – can she fish? Can she do anything? It did not show me that I was actually learning how to open up a coconut and doing it pretty darn good and was able to get out there and fish with the Hawaiian sling.
RR: The tribal council you were voted off, and what we saw was edited, but the reason why you were targetted was that you had told Vytas that he was the one that was going to go? Is that true?
LB: I think they wanted an excuse. You are always trying to find the crack in Survivor and find the weakness and that was part of Tina’s doing to find the weakness in the tribe. I was too honest with him and we had an agreement to tell each other if the girls mentioned my name please let me know and you do the same. Obviously it came back to bite me. I did talk to Tina about it and she was like “I don’t want to tell him but you can Laura”. Knowing we were in a girl alliance it should not matter really if we were strong enough in the alliance whether I told him or not.
RR: Was it true that Tina was really pulling the strings on that tribe?
LB: Definitely. There was another time where we ready to vote out Vytas and I go out fishing and come back and Tina says we are voting out Kat. There were a couple of times where Vytas made it through. I think they made a big mistake keeping him there.
RR: Maybe Tina had a little crush on him and was hoping that he could be his son-in-law.
LB: Oh yes she wants grand children. It’s Survivor you think of any little reason to get rid of people or get rid of people.
RR: You get to Redemption Island and Laura M’s there who you voted out.
LB: We were pretty competitive and I did not like having two Laura’s on the tribe so I was apart of the alliance that wanted to get Laura M out. We did push each others button a little bit in competition.
RR: Did she hammer you once you got to Redemption Island wanting to know why she was voted out? Or had she made peace with it?
LB: We talked about how Tina and Monica being the girls in charge there. She was going to go back in the game or I was going to go back into the game and make our vengence and get back and not be with the girls. and probably align with the guys.
RR: Now Rupert has been there four times what tips did he tell you about the game and did it help?
LB: It is hard to prepare you for this game and we did talk a lot about shelter and food and making sure you have a really strong alliance and trying to trust people even though it is for a million dollars. You get out there and your emotions get a hold of you and trying to trust is really really challenging part of this game particularly with the Blood V Water. There is so many different aspects of the game it is hard to really give suggestions.
RR: If you had made the merge who would you have aligned with? The couples or the solo players? You had been voted out by just about everyone so who did you trust?
LB: Honestly they did not show that I was in the Gevase, Tyson, Tina, Aras alliance. So I probably would have tried to jump in with the guys and joined in with the guys whether they were a pair or by themselves.
RR: I have you made any lasting friendships from Survivor? At the reunion who are you looking forward to seeing?
LB: Rupert and I have our own lives here. There is no one that I am dying to see from the game. I am just a different kind of person then the people that play Survivor. Some of the other tribe of newbies I did not really get to spend time together except for Katie. I would like to meet some of those people.
RR: Would you do Survivor again?
LB: That is what surprised me the most you are hungry, you’re tired and you are away from your family and friends, and you are sleeping on the ground but it is the most exhilerating and amazing experience and I would do it again.
RR: Would you go on another reality TV show and which one would it be?
LB: I really like The Amazing Race and maybe Rupert and I will get to play that together.
