Tully Smyth and Drew Talk About Their Relationship
So it must be official as Tully and Drew from this year’s Big Brother have sold the story of their relationship to a magazine.
Tully who is 26 years-old and Drew who is 25 hooked up in the Big Brother house this year. It was major plot line as Tully has walked into the house declaring she was in a committed relationship with a girl. She walked out having been dumped and the Australian viewer waited to see if Drew and her would be together when they got out.
OK Magazine got their first interview. Here are the best bits:
So when did you two officially become an item?
Drew: I asked Tully to be my girlfriend the night I got outof the house.
Tully: I waited for him for six weeks and I had no idea what was going to happen but, after his media commitments and catch-ups, we finally got alone time at about 4am, and that’s when he pulled out Tim’s elimination rocks [winning housemate Tim Dormer prepared for nominations each week using a rock collection where each rock represented a fellow housemate].
Was that your idea of a proposal with a different kind of rock, Drew?
Sort of. Before I left, I pleaded with Tim to give me my rock. I’d already stolen Tully’s, and my plan was to give her both rocks as asegue to asking her to be my girlfriend.
Tully: It’s funny, because the house is now open for touring and the rocks have been Perspexed together as part of the exhibit, but thereare two missing from the collection…
Why did you hide the relationship?
Tully: It’s been tricky. Part of us doesn’t feel like wehave to answer any more questions – I feel that us being on the show has put ourselves out there for the public enough. [And] my private life has been dragged through the mud.
Does the attention put a lot of pressure on you as a new couple?
Tully: Any new couple just wants to spend time getting toknow each other and enjoying each other’s company, and it feels like we have the pressure of the whole country on us.
You shared kisses and a bed in the house – did you consider it cheating?
Tully: Definitely. I had weekly anxiety-slash-panic attacks about it. I actually asked the producers the night that I got out, quite passionately, ‘Did you put Drew in the house to f— my lifeup? Did you put him in there for me?’ But they swear black and blue that he wasmeant for Jade.
So would you say it’s love?
Drew: I think it is.
Tully: I don’t think that I would’ve done what I did in thehouse if I didn’t think that it was serious and worth taking the risk for.
Tully, we know you lived with your ex-girlfriend, but have you lived with a boyfriend before?
This will be the first time, but it’s kind of funny because there’s still long hairs in my bed, he’s still asking to borrow my eyeliner, and he still asks to borrow hair elastics….it’s not really that different!
Tully, when you went intot he house, you weren’t a huge fan of guys…
It wasn’t all guys; I’ve dated a lot of scumbags and seen a lot when I was working as a door host at nightclubs around Sydney. Then I went into the house, and I met some really sweet guys and it changed my opinion….
How have you found the response to your relationship from the public?
Tully: It’s been nothing but positive face-to-face, but online has been a bit of a different story. I cop a lot of abuse, a lot more than Drew.
Drew: I cop the odd bit on Twitter.
Tully: I feel I’ve copped it for the both of us.
Is the hate hard to deal with Tully?
Yeah, it’s really upsetting – I’m only human and reading comment after comment from random people attacking me and my friends and family, including my mum, who’s incredibly ill [Tully’s mum has Alzheimer’s Disease] – that’s when it makes you want to throw your phone against a wall and never leave your house.
Do you still speak to Tahlia?
We’re both trying to move forward with our lives. I’m not going to pretend I wasn’t upset with the story she did with Woman’s Day, but at the end of the day, I spent two years of my life with her – she’s still very dear to me.
