Grant Denyer Denies That He Had An Ice Addiction

Grant Denyer has come out swinging at the article in this week Woman’s Day which claims he spent a month at a rehab clinic to beat an addiction to methampehtamine. The former Australia’s Got Talent host and Sunrise weatherman is obtaining legal advice on what is a sensational article.

Grant Denyer in a statement to news.com.au said:

The Denyers admit that they did spend time at The Cabin, however strongly deny the magazine’s reports that it was for drug issues in a statement released to news.com.au.

“Claims that the couple have a drug addiction and that Grant recently lost his Channel 7 contract are both false,” says the joint statement from Grant and Chezzi Denyer, released by the former Sunrise weatherman’s manager Titus Day. “They are currently taking legal advice on what action can be taken against the magazine.

“Grant and Chezzi Denyer are saddened by the highly defamatory article in this week’s Woman’s Day Magazine. The couple have been under immense stress in recent months due to Grant dealing with chronic fatigue brought on by exhaustion and an ongoing unknown stomach illness. Chezzi has also been dealing with PTSD and anxiety issues resulting from Grant’s condition.”

The statement continues: “The wellness centre they attended in Thailand specialises in the treatment of PTSD and exhaustion and they spent four weeks there to finally address these ongoing health concerns. With their conditions now under control they are healthier and happier than they have ever been.

The program director at The Cabin in Chang Mail also told news.com.au  that “Grant and Chezzi Denyer were both in treatment at The Cabin Chiang Mai for work exhaustion, executive burnout, anxiety, and PTSD”.

“They were both highly motivated during treatment and the episode resulted in a successful outcome,” the statement read.

The Woman’s Day article claims that Denyer and his wife had a $200,000 year drug habit and sought help for the addiction at rehab. Their two-year-old daughter’s grandparents looked after her for the month they were at The Cabin Chang Mai which states on its website it is Asia’s best and most respected drug and alcohol rehab centre.

What some people might find even more scandalous is the Woman’s Day claims that Grant was paid $750,000 to host Slide Show.

Wow! I always wondered how he managed to be so energetic and happy at such early times of the morning, every morning. Guess it wasn’t just caffeine perking him up.

Are we going to keep an eye on the morning weather reporter or maybe all those working on unearthly hours?

He did look tired while doing “Million Dollar Minute”, and never seemed to be enjoying it.
His excuse for leaving every show he was on was he missed his family, that’s no different from any other man who has to work hard to support his family.
Maybe a change in career would be good for him?

I wonder when he hurt his back if he became addicted to the pain medication then? And that’s what he is/was addicted to. As people have got addicted to it.

He seemed lovely when I met him a few months ago… If he had a serious habit he was able to hide it very well. This is all private stuff anyway – scandalous gossip – not dissimilar to the amount of attention that poor Thorpy is getting (in deference to the recently deceased Charlotte D who volunteered very private information about herself into the public domain)

Legal action? Mate it’s a trash mag article – get over it.

There are defamation laws for a reason – they’ve got a stack of money, they can stand to lose some of it – he should sue the pants off them

Whatever his problem was I am pleased he and his wife are well now and hopefully are able to continue on with a healthy life. Stick it up Women’s Day Grant.

Woman’s Day is not a charity. One assumes that they have a basis for the story.

If it’s true, I’m gobsmacked. I thought he was straighter than a gun barrel.

Thailand~ great place to go clean up. Bit like that Canadian Mayor on crack, if he’s vehemently denying it, it could well be true.

I am over the trashy magazines. I stopped buying them when they paid Pixie Skase for an interview. New Idea is on the shelves at the moment “indicating” that William and Kate are pregnant with a girl. When you open it and look at the story it says something completely different… like someone who knows them hopes they have a girl next (or something equally as unrelated to actual fact).

I hope Grant is telling the truth… that Woman’s Day have made this shit up or just taken some liar’s word for it without checking facts… and that he sues them for squillions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, Grant Denyer is yesterday’s fish and chip wrappings already because the media have rounded on Grant Hackett now. He’s a much bigger name and his situation is all over Shitrise and The Morning Show today. And I mean flogged like a dead horse. Why should bottom feeders like 2GB’s Anal Jones be weighing in on this with his track record?

To have a $200000 a year speed habit works out at about $550 a day . Given an 8 ball (1/8 of an ounce ) of speed is between 300 and 600 , depending on quality, that is a lot of speed to be using everyday day. It is the amount that the toothless unable to operate normally drugies take daily. This story has no credibility based just on the maths alone.

Carol@11, I saw that too in New Idea, its such false advertising on the front page saying that Kate is pregnant with a girl, and a sister for Fifi Box’s/Grant Kenny’s baby girl. Then, inside the mag, its all speculation.
I also feel sorry for Ian Thorpe, Grant Denyer, and Grant Hackett especially, as they made out he was wondering round that hotel drunk off his face when he was just in a panic looking for his son, as anyone would be.

@simon they are talking methamphetamine . This is not 1994 and an 8 ball of speed is not $300-$600. An 8ball of ice is in fact more like $1500 but people with money know nothing of an “8ball” and would be buying $600-$800 grams ( depending on quality and it’s not like they would be purchasing cut street gear) . So 0.9 grams split between 2 people a day is not a lot of product for an addict to be smoking.
