My Kitchen Rules – At Least Thirty Percent Of These Contestants Can’t Cook
No wonder Pete Evans is thinking of leaving MKR if the the standard of dishes is anything to go on in the latest episode. In the ad breaks SEVEN was proudly telling the viewer to go and check out the recipes on their official website. No thanks I already know how to cook chicken schnitzel.
The Victorian boys, Harry and Christo revealed again last night they cannot cook. You know the team is going to go badly when Harry was actually the one holding them together. Christo was the inept one. In the first challenge where the five losing teams from the previous episode had to give meat and three vegetables a bit of razzle he looked like he had just taken a sedative.
Sure the teams had a twist where they were given a protein, but still the challenge was not THAT hard.
Christo was in slow motion in the pantry and could not decide what he needed to cook the Lamb with Zucchini Salad and Potatoes. At one point it looked like they would not get anything on the plate with him sighing “I don’t know how I am going to get the lamb cooked”. Well getting it on a hot plate would be a good start.
In the end it was not long enough and they served “blue” aka raw lamb. This did not go down well with the judges who consisted of the other contestants. The only person who said she liked it was Cathy but she had to say that as that was how she served hers in her instant restaurant. The only up side for the boys was that they literally served three vegetables. Most of the other contestants could not count that far and only got up to two. The two strongest teams were surprisingly Thalia and Bianca from Tasmania. Their chicken with mushroom puree with asparagus had a touch of the wedding dish look about it, but everyone thought it was cooked beautifully and they were chosen to be safe.
Bree and Jessica also showed they are one of the more competent teams in the competition. They made Beef Steak with Sweet Potato chips, mashed potato and chimichirri sauce and even though the mash needed more flavour which must mean salt and butter. Manu and Pete made them safe from elimination.
Rick and Deb had to cook duck, which Rick did very nicely it just was a strange mish mash of Asian style vegetables that went with it. As Manu said it looked like something from the frozen section of the supermarket.
Vikki and Helena must have been borderline in getting through with their Crumbed Pork Cutlet with Fennel Salad. The issue was there was a lot of apple in the salad and they penalised for it not meeting the brief.
The girls had to go into round two against Naughty Nana and Harry and Christo. This time they had to make a family favourite. Vikki and Helena made Pork and Beef Meatballs with Fettucini. They showed some cooking skills by making a nice tomato/basil sauce, putting feta in the middle of the meatball, and making their own pasta. Even though Helena was having a brain explosion over it, they did managed to plate up a nice tasting dish.
No surprise they were the first to be made safe as they were against the inept and the even more inept. Harry and Christo made Chicken Schnitzel and even then they took it off too early and it was raw. Lucky for them they checked and put it back into the oil. Harry made coleslaw and when questioned about the amount of pepper he put in it said he had not. He had and he had put a lot in.
Deb and Rick were making Caramelised Chicken with Jasmine Rice Salad. Deb decided to fancy it up by putting coconut milk, but it looked like she had not done that before as she kept on stirring it, then she added more water, then she rinsed it under a tap. It was a gluggy mess and this was what put her and hubby into the elimination challenge tonight against Uel and Shannelle.
