My Kitchen Rules – At Least Thirty Percent Of These Contestants Can’t Cook

No wonder Pete Evans is thinking of leaving MKR if the the standard of dishes is anything to go on in the latest episode. In the ad breaks SEVEN was proudly telling the viewer to go and check out the recipes on their official website. No thanks I already know how to cook chicken schnitzel.

The Victorian boys, Harry and Christo revealed again last night they cannot cook. You know the team is going to go badly when Harry was actually the one holding them together. Christo was the inept one. In the first challenge where the five losing teams from the previous episode had to give meat and three vegetables a bit of razzle he looked like he had just taken a sedative.

Sure the teams had a twist where they were given a protein, but still the challenge was not THAT hard.

Christo was in slow motion in the pantry and could not decide what he needed to cook the Lamb with Zucchini Salad and Potatoes. At one point it looked like they would not get anything on the plate with him sighing “I don’t know how I am going to get the lamb cooked”. Well getting it on a hot plate would be a good start.

In the end it was not long enough and they served “blue” aka raw lamb. This did not go down well with the judges who consisted of the other contestants. The only person who said she liked it was Cathy but she had to say that as that was how she served hers in her instant restaurant. The only up side for the boys was that they literally served three vegetables. Most of the other contestants could not count that far and only got up to two. The two strongest teams were surprisingly Thalia and Bianca from Tasmania. Their chicken with mushroom puree with asparagus had a touch of the wedding dish look about it, but everyone thought it was cooked beautifully and they were chosen to be safe.

Bree and Jessica also showed they are one of the more competent teams in the competition.  They made Beef Steak with Sweet Potato chips, mashed potato and chimichirri sauce and even though the mash needed more flavour which must mean salt and butter.  Manu and Pete made them safe from elimination.

Rick and Deb had to cook duck, which Rick did very nicely it just was a strange mish mash of Asian style vegetables that went with it. As Manu said it looked like something from the frozen section of the supermarket.

Vikki and Helena must have been borderline in getting through with their Crumbed Pork Cutlet with Fennel Salad. The issue was there was a lot of apple in the salad and they penalised for it not meeting the brief.

The girls had to go into round two against Naughty Nana and Harry and Christo. This time they had to make a family favourite. Vikki and Helena made Pork and Beef Meatballs with Fettucini. They showed some cooking skills by making a nice tomato/basil sauce, putting feta in the middle of the meatball, and making their own pasta. Even though Helena was having a brain explosion over it, they did managed to plate up a nice tasting dish.

No surprise they were the first to be made safe as they were against the inept and the even more inept. Harry and Christo made Chicken Schnitzel and even then they took it off too early and it was raw. Lucky for them they checked and put it back into the oil. Harry made coleslaw and when questioned about the amount of pepper he put in it said he had not. He had and he had put a lot in.

Deb and Rick were making Caramelised Chicken with Jasmine Rice Salad. Deb decided to fancy it up by putting coconut milk, but it looked like she had not done that before as she kept on stirring it, then she added more water, then she rinsed it under a tap. It was a gluggy mess and this was what put her and hubby into the elimination challenge tonight against Uel and Shannelle.

Best wishes for you and your family.

Thanks heaps! Funny how 82 seems so old when it is someone else’s Dad. Daisy, I haven’t seen any posts from Honeybee for ages. Do you know her. I have been wondering where she is with her padded pants?

5 daisy { 03.04.14 at 10:16 pm }

I am her, Sandii. 😆 Just keepin a low profile for awhile.

No padded pants until our foot gets better.
6 weeks to go.

The TV guide had mentioned which team is going into sudden death.

7 Sandii { 03.04.14 at 10:26 pm }

I don’t understand daisy?????

If Nanna wanted to compete against some “whipper-snippers” ,the silly cow should have gone to Bunnings. Oh well, I’m now watching Silence Of The Lamb Shanks to celebrate their demise.

Wishing the best for you,Sandii.

You don’t need to Sandii. It’s your night tonight.
Put your feet up and I’ll fix you a drink.
What would you like. Cuppa? Wine? Bailey’s Irish Coffee?

Can I put in my request, daisy? I would like a matcha latte, please.

11 daisy { 03.04.14 at 10:43 pm }

Coming right up with a green tea tiramisu on the side for you Littlepetal.

12 Littlepetal { 03.04.14 at 10:49 pm }

Thanks, daisy. I need that.

13 daisy { 03.04.14 at 10:49 pm }

U just gave S 2/3 of a sh*t, I mean compliment sandwich; “You’re going really fast Darling, but you need to go faster”

CL have you ripped all your ears off yet at all the ‘darlings’. Aaaaaaw. It’s cute. I’ll see if my ‘Darling’ will share his mango with me.

Aaaaaw. He did. What a darling. :)

Sandii, just sending my best wishes for your dad. {{{{{Hugs}}}}} to you matey, and I hope he is okay.

15 daisy { 03.04.14 at 11:04 pm }

Littlepetal, will you please make me chilli crab and the fried bun. Yum.

I have never seen the buns fried before.

16 daisy { 03.04.14 at 11:06 pm }

Rosie, I have a friend called Rosie and she is such a laugher that when ever I see her she totally gets me started.

Plus I always burst into “Oh Rosie, don’t you do that to the boys.” You seem as fun as that Rosie.

17 Littlepetal { 03.04.14 at 11:08 pm }

The soft shell crab look yummy. I just love soft shell crab!

18 Zhee { 03.04.14 at 11:11 pm }

Sandii, I hope everything turns out fine with your dad. :/

Bye bye Naughty Nanna… aka Bette Middler’s weird twin…
I suppose in 5 years this will happen to her:

I hope Harry and Christo are next. It’s like a car crash with those two. You know it’s bad but you can’t stop watching. Harry looks like my brother in law but good god, is he dumb. Seriously. I’m currently waiting for an episode where he puts his hand into a running mixer. Christo, I think he can cook – at home when he has a full day. But not suitable for a competition. It showed in the episode he cracks under pressure… Harry, I suppose he’s that kind of guy who’d put eggs with shell in a pan, scrambles them and puts some vinegar over it thinking it’s yum.

19 daisy { 03.04.14 at 11:18 pm }

Aaah! Deb just threw curry powder in. It won’t be nice if it’s not fried in at the start.

Her hubby is very patient. I wonder what he said when she came home with the scary face. And what she used to look like before. I’m guessing, better.

20 Littlepetal { 03.04.14 at 11:23 pm }

Rick is a very nice husband.

Uel and Shanelle are very loving towards one another.

21 Georgie { 03.04.14 at 11:32 pm }

Thinking of you Sandii, I’m on a similar journey. ♥

22 daisy { 03.04.14 at 11:35 pm }

Yes, Sandii. we are all thinking of you now.

Littlepetal, US’s sweets remind me of Spices. I loved their pandan sweets with the durian sauce.

23 daisy { 03.04.14 at 11:55 pm }

Kudos to Deb for going out on a high note by being genuinely gracious toward U&S.

Manu said “crap” instead of crepe.
Normally I’d agree with him when he called the food ‘crap’.

I like Colin’s critiques. He must have insisted on an honesty clause in his contract.

24 Rosie { 03.04.14 at 11:57 pm }

Daisy – looks around furtively – “Rosie” is not really my name, just a version of it. But I do chuckle quite a lot. It’s definitely the secret to a long marriage…er, I mean a long, HAPPY marriage.

25 daisy { 03.05.14 at 12:13 am }

I won’t tell.

26 Littlepetal { 03.05.14 at 7:47 am }

We had a new phamlet for a Thai rest in our letter box. I told Mr LP that I won’t be ordering the soft shell crab fried rice because it was listed as soft shell CRAP fried rice!

27 Zhee { 03.05.14 at 8:37 am }

Daisy, I tried to spot the moment when Manu said crêpes – I guess I missed it. But it sounds indeed a bit more like “crap” (just without the rolling “R”). Most English people call them crehhhhhps.
http://dict.leo.org/frde/index_de.html#/search=crepes&searchLoc=0&resultOrder=basic&multiwordShowSingle=on
If you are interested in how it sounds properly. Everything has sound so you can hear the proper pronounciation. :)

28 daisy { 03.05.14 at 10:39 am }

Thanks Zee. I thought there is normally I slight distinction between the French crepe and ‘crap’.

I hope The guy on 30R gets to sing again. Loved the bald guy trying to get revenge on Jenna.

Littlepetal, long ago we took the kids to Thailand (before the Aussie invasion) and amongst other oddities, the menu had
Prawns with Buttons
Fish with Cancer

Pass and pass.

I’m still pleased about the win for S&U last night.

29 emp { 03.05.14 at 10:41 am }

Just saw the spoiler about sudden death, surprised no one at 7 noticed it

30 brain dead dave { 03.05.14 at 11:24 am }

The right team won, I think,even though the result was known for a good few days .Like Manu said, on MKR they like to keep the surprises rolling. Another sudden death spoiler? Yawn.

Manu said “crap” when announcing S&U’s dessert menu prior to scoring. He’s even bunging on Jowl$ian arm gestures into his act now. His hair looked a fright,too.

The return of the mindless peanut gallery-too contrived for words. The entire show is going into sudden death.

31 emp { 03.05.14 at 11:31 am }

I appreciated Cathy, Chloe and Kelly’s inane and obvious ‘commentary’.

32 daisy { 03.05.14 at 12:01 pm }

It was also a case of light food v heavy old fashioned goop.

33 georgietake2 { 03.05.14 at 12:10 pm }

I thought Deb & Rick were very gracious and well mannered when they lost. And they are genuine in their best wishes for the rest. Nice people, I think I would like to have a drink or two with Cathy and Deb, I bet they would be a lot more fun than the Chloe and Kelly.

34 daisy { 03.05.14 at 12:30 pm }

I agree on the first part. Deb bowed out generously.

But as for drinks, I think I might go Princess Anne and her partner, and dippy Carly and hers. Princess Anne has a bit of a guffaw in her. I think these girls might be where the fun would be.
I’d also invite U&S because they are sweet.

35 Littlepetal { 03.05.14 at 2:26 pm }

emp, I noticed the spoiler and posted on #56. Didn’t want to spoil it for others who dont like spoiler. I also saw a bit of the filming they did at Parramatta and that gave away who will be safe at the next sudden death!

36 daisy { 03.05.14 at 2:30 pm }

You’re so funny at liking spoilers Littlepetal.

I bet you read books backwards.

37 Littlepetal { 03.05.14 at 2:47 pm }

I think you are right, daisy. I can’t stand the suspense. Watching live sport can kill me.

38 Sandii { 03.05.14 at 2:57 pm }

Hi everyone, thanks heaps for all the support last night, it made me feel warm and fuzzy when I most needed it. Dad has been sent home into my mums care. They are happy to be back together. Xx

39 Littlepetal { 03.05.14 at 2:59 pm }

Sandii, mum can fuss over him now. All the best

40 Calorie Loader { 03.06.14 at 1:52 am }

Daisy @ 19 on the paper mache 😆
CB@21 excellent likeness
Smythe@25 I would almost go as far as to say these guys make Emma Dean look competent but then I remember things…horrible things like the restaurant challenges.
Sandii, great to hear your Dad is OK and back home.
Daisy@63-not yet. Haven’t got to that ep yet-still behind, but thank you, I will have a razor blade at the ready…

Manu at least delivered tonight with his take on the English language and made this episode slightly more bearable:
-Commenting on Deb and Rick’s meat and 3 veg, ‘the vag-I dun wanna be rood’..late?
-On a vegetable roll he says of Helena and Vikki’s meal, ‘lot of apple more than funnel’
-Apparently H+C cooked crumbed chicken breast, coleslaw and rusted cherry tomatoes.

Deb and Rick hit delusion on the head again with Rick saying it will be borderline who is chosen as a safe team, and Deb says she’s going back to making the special rice her Mum used to make-rice and water.

41 Georgie { 03.06.14 at 7:50 am }

Yes Sandii, glad to hear your dad is okay and home again.

42 Sandii { 03.06.14 at 9:04 am }

Thanks Georgie.
Calorie Loader your take on Manu has me in stitches. Meat and 3 vag. bahahahahaha… Gold! I literally have tears !!!!!!

43 Calorie Loader { 03.06.14 at 3:10 pm }

Cheers Sandii, glad you’re in better spirits.
