My Kitchen Rules – Carly And Tresne Have Gone From Besties To “Married”.
Popular team on My Kitchen Rules, Carly and Tresne, have now revealed they are a couple and are indeed married. Well as married as you can get in Australia, they held a commitment ceremony.
The girls on the show have been presented as best friends and they tell New Idea even though the producers picked they were a couple they did wanted to be judged on their cooking skills not their sexual preferences.
I can see their point and good on them for trying to control their own back story, but they risk fans feeling duped by being given a fake biography and portrayal of the team. Quite frankly I figure there would be more judgement about them being kooky with all that circle of empowerment hijinks then the fact they are lipstick lesbians.
It is interesting the producers decided to respect their wishes however maybe they thought it might make better publicity later on in the series as we can see by the spread in this weeks New Idea.
OK Magazine is not going to be happy as last week they asked the girls “You’re both single, are you looking for romance?”. Both girls said No. Tresne then said “It’s not on the top of our list” and Carly “I think we’ve both let our career get in the way of romance and relationships. We’re both always chasing dreams. We’re both super goal-orientated and driving each other to achieve the goals we set”.
Let’s not let the truth get in the way of another magazine exclusive…..
Even though the viewer these days know that reality TV is manipulated they still like to think there is some authenticity the risk to their popularity will not be because of them being gay it will be because the audience will think they have been lied to.
UPDATE: I now have the hard version of the New Idea.
“We wanted to go on the show as ourselves and have people judge us on cooking and not our sexual preference,” Carly says ‘Channel Seven were so good to us and very understanding.”
Tresne adds: ‘All the other teams knew about us. They picked it up after the second instant restaurant, even though we are not a couple who indulge in public displays of affection.’
But now the girls , who have dreams of becoming motivational speakers, feel like it’s time to share the truth with public.
‘It wasn’t sitting right with us, not saying anything of our relationship,’ explains Carly about their change of hearts.
‘We were actually feeling sick about it but now that we’ve shared it, a wave of relief has washed over us. We also hope that by doing this, we can help young kids who are struggling to come out.
‘I know it might be a bit rough for the next couple, but we are pretty resilient.’
Woman’s Day also reported on the story Tresne and Carly also applied for The Amazing Race in 2012, it would be interesting to know if they applied as besties or lovers on that application.
In fact with them coming out now it has made it a bigger deal then if they had just started the show as a couple.
