My Kitchen Rules – Anna Needs To Stop Being So Uptight

Anna who at the beginning of My Kitchen Rules sniped that she did not want to see another taco, however clearly Tortillas are OK. She and her mum were cooking Crab Tortillas last night in the challenge where the teams were cooking for farmers. Interesting one was carrying the Lilydale Chickens so I am just going to presume he was a guy from the Lilydale marketing department dressed up as a farmer.

Chloe and Kelly were absent due to Chloe’s mother being sick and they missed the opportunity of the prize with the winning team being safe from two eliminations.

Anna was keen for the win so was being as uptight as ever and of course giving her mother the shitty jobs. This time it was cooking and shelling the crabs. She used the excuse of “When mum is in a state it is best to give her one simple task’ she should have added “and I always make it the crap one”.

Cathy always has the responsibility to cook protien whist Anna fluffs around with the side dishes. Cathy never appears to complain but after losing her 24 year old son a few years ago she probably has being on a reality show well and truly in perspective.

The other team that has a prima donna in it is Josh and Danielle. Josh spent most of the prep time trying to deep fry watermelon (why?) and when he realised he was stuffing it up and would have to ditch it turns to Danielle and says “come on”. Their Asian Pork with now raw watermelon looked unappetising but did get a surprisingly high number of votes from the farmers.

Bree and Jessica were looking tense and in the interview segments were not even looking at each other. Love the way Bree takes all the glory but none of the criticism. They made Beef Tortillas. It looked like again they would dishing up undercooked beef but they quickly slammed it back on the grill to cook it more. The judges like it but said there should have been more chilli in the dressing. They declared Anna and Cathy’s the better tortilla.

The Tassie girls had their first slip up. They made Lamb Backstrap with Cauliflower Puree and Salsa Verde along with flat bread as all dishes appeared to need a base to be served on. Their bread was criticised as was the flavour combinations. Pete thought the lamb was perfectly cooked however it was pretty pink.

The twins should have gone two eliminations ago. They made Confit of Salmon with Nicoise Salad and Sweet Potato Rosti. Helena thought it was about time they won but they need to dish up something decent. They were cooking the salmon at 70 degrees instead of 62 degrees and then the oil went up to 80 degrees. So cooked on the outside but raw on the inside. They were told the salmon was tasty but they only got three votes as dish of the day.

It was Paul and Blair who took out judges choice and will be safe for two eliminations. They cooked Beef and Prawns with Nam Jim Sauce on  a wonton. I note they were store bought wontons! It looked delicious and Pete said they could win the competition but they need to believe in themselves.

The remaining teams have been split into three and have to cook off against each other the worst team from each group is to be eliminated.

I think on Master Chef the contestants have had vegetarian challenges, its probably a difficult thing to think of something vegetarian that isn’t just salad.
Vegetarian pizza maybe?
I agree Gabby about raw chicken being a loser.

Vegetable curry, stew, pasta, soup, bake. Using dried pulses etc, as the main protein. It is not easy, but it can be done. I think they are all just playing it “safe” and anyone doing anything different is going for the wacky, not the clever. I agree the inconsistent judging and the blatant ‘match fixing” is very annoying, they really think we, the audience, are stupid. Also it is unfair for the contestants, they are told to be innovative, then they are told “this is not how this dish is done” It is boring because a) None of them can really cook and b) The creativity is stifled. Last night the teams were told to make a signature dish, the twins cooked a classic family favorite, only to be criticised for making a dessert not a main. If it is their signature dish, as requested, where is the problem? Sorry rant over.

Princes Jen was on Sunrise during MKR and said how they were being pushed as the villains and she wasn’t playing.
She and Leigh were great. They just don’t make MKR contestants like that anymore. And damn, they could cook back then.

This lot are boring.

Yes, Sammi and Bella cooked on $unrise this morning and were great. Hell, they even managed not to under cook a chicken.

@52. Agree. Perhaps I’m being optimistic but surely the twins are more familiar with Greek food than any of the other contestants. A quick look at recipes for a similar cake shows that it is a sweet cake. It is unfair to be told by some of the judges that it’s too sweet especially when Colin “Fascist” has often said that dishes are too sweet. Perhaps that is his palate. He did say that he is a “meat” man. At least Guy Grossi was in foodie heaven and said that it took him back to the Greek cakes he remembered from Oakleigh during his childhood. If the challenge is not limited to mains, then contestants should not be criticised for preparing a dessert.

Sammi and Bella, Jen and Leigh…..back then we could get excited about who would win. Then we get Dan and Steph ….and all the stupid costuming, scripting and faux drama.

I don’t think MKR has “anywhere to hide with this dish”.

PS, What’s with that the “There’s nowhere to hide in this dish” nonsense.

Although we have all these comments to make about the contestants, don’t they cook some great stuff??? Yum and I can’t help but feel for them when they present their dishes, they must feel like naughty school kids with some of the comments they receive . Personally, I think they should leave their darlings and kisses and handholding at home, it’s a cooking show not an eating show

I’m surprised nobody mentioned that Paul and Blair were only safe from one elimination. Since the remaining contestants were split into 2 groups Paul and Blair would only have been in one of those groups (had they not won their safety) and therefore only eligible to be eliminated once. Safety from two eliminations implies they were at risk of being eliminated twice and saved from that risk, and that wasn’t true. If they hadn’t been saved and were in group 1, and survived (as Chloe and Kelly and the Twins did) they’d automatically have been safe from the second elimination anyway (much as Chloe and Kelly and the Twins were). And vice-versa if they’d have been in group 2. In format terms, they only sat out one elimination.
