@daisy: So nice of you to leave Vikas for me!!! Never thought i would get jealous of Laura!!!! And gotta say you gave him a nice name ‘Mr HOTNSPICY’

2 abc { 06.23.14 at 11:45 pm }

And Lulu:- If its not Tash coming back then we wont have the best cook coming back!! Its my opinion!!! I really dont think there was any racism against her!!! She herself never claimed any such thing!!!

3 lulu { 06.23.14 at 11:46 pm }

I know, Daisy. Doesn’t make sense when many of the best-loved contestants have been ‘non-white,’ so to speak. Rishi was my fave.

LW, glad you didn’t say Vikas can also stuff my … no, won’t go there.

4 daisy { 06.23.14 at 11:48 pm }

Just don’t put your hands near your eyes after handling him abc.

@daisy:- Jamshedpur is a city!!!! and seriously you’l had vikas khanna today??? Feels real good!!! Love him in Masterchef India!!! The main reason i watch!!!

6 daisy { 06.23.14 at 11:57 pm }

Mayu, I googled it. I saw you have a nice big lake.

Favourite Hindi movie Paheli. I love Rani Mukerji, and even though he is such a doofus/ dag, I can’t help liking Sharrukh.

Oh and Kal Ho Na Ho. Equal favourite. We have the movies and the CD. I often use the KHNH CD for dancing when I am teaching and the kids LOVE dancing to it.

Did anyone else notice yesterday when the judges cut into the Pork Chop, there was a big bright red blob inside it.
Which they ignored, and then pretended it was properly cooked. No kidding, I don’t mean a bit pink, it was red, and on camera for about half a second.

It’s a fix.

Jamie wore a bow tie today and it makes me happy.

and my love for Emilia is growing stronger and stronger. “Put your chicken in Laura’s. She’ll let you”. Even though the plan did not work, she was thinking on her feet and I respect that.

9 Mayu { 06.24.14 at 2:29 am }

Daisy:- Yes we do have a nice lake!!! Paheli is indeed one of the best movies in a long time. I like it a lot!!! Rani Mukherjee is nice!!! I dont like Shahrukh khan!!!! :p

The best part about tonight’s episode was the preview for the next. How exciting! Unfortunately I don’t think it’s Sarah (as much as I want her to) since her new website is up and running.

Rachael is a huge possibility but I’m tired of her so I hope t won’t happen

Is it just me or do the judges each have about 3 ways of pronouncing Renae’s name? Rennay, Ren-eye, Rinnaye, Ren-naye…

12 TG { 06.24.14 at 3:03 am }

Does anyone else feel like what they had to cook for elimination was easier than well nearly every other recipe following elimination challenge before it?

13 Nan { 06.24.14 at 3:17 am }

Thank you so much RR for all the episode reviews of MC….The reviews and comments are more entertaining than the actual episode :) Since the season doesn’t air in Dubai yet, the reviews determine whether I watch the show online or not!!!

14 Zhee { 06.24.14 at 4:28 am }

Welcome Mayu! Or may I say “Welcome Mayu!!!”. 😀 If you want to watch MCA before it is broadcast in India, you can try streaming websites. It’s the only way for me to watch MCA as they will never ever broadcast this one in France. :/

Ahhh, so much sobbing tonight… And holla, Renae had children at age 18… I couldn’t imagine having a near teenager as a child already.
Returning contestants: Tash for sure. But I don’t believe it will be her. Maybe Nicole? She seemed to be okay. Or that unbearable Rachael? (Dear, I didn’t like her on TV. She has an aura which comes off so fake and something is off-putting, but I can’t put my finger on that)

15 Alec C { 06.24.14 at 5:48 am }

Was it Callum that didn’t like the callbacks for his season?

Laura would have used her ammunity pin Monday so Georgia was destined to go home.

LOTR Smaug is replaced with Emalie’s team SMUG-A

I also thought Jamie missed intentionally on the pastry Q.

16 daisy { 06.24.14 at 8:05 am }

Zhee, my mum married at 17, and had me at 18. I had all my kids by the time I was 28. My kids had their kids in their 20s.
The good part is you have energy for your kids and grandkids.
I partied when I was young, had kids, then I did all those things like getting degrees and working afterwards when my kids were in their teens.
It was a different era.

17 daisy { 06.24.14 at 8:13 am }

I am not sure if this was mentioned before, but leaning over the balcony and looking down is not a good camera angle except for the very young.
One of them, Amy I think leaned too far and had her cheeks dangling.
Wow, I wonder what would happen if Jowlsy tried it.

18 Smythe { 06.24.14 at 8:14 am }

Too much peanut gallery going on. Would like them to be off the gantry and watching elsewhere like was done w/ the sushi elimination challenge.
Renae licks her finger (think she burned it a bit) and then touches the chicken. Another example of the great hygiene and sanitary practices on MC. :-)
Hoping to see Sarah and/or Tash back.
Who will it be?

19 Benji { 06.24.14 at 9:01 am }

@lulu 145
I know that was more of a tongue-in-cheek comment, but the suggestions of “covert racism” or prejudice or whatnot were targeted against a few people in the house this season, not all of the contestants, or the producers, or the judges, or the show in general. I think there’s a difference between blaming racism for every perceived slight, and recognising that some people can just be jerks.

@JoeMangel
I was wondering what that blotch in the meat was…
http://i.imgur.com/O8NinwF.jpg
It is rather conspicuous.

Renae’s recipe modifications reminded me of Poh. “I know it says this… but I’m going to do it this way instead for no apparent reason.”

The judging is becoming more contrived. Or maybe I’m just more aware of it now. When Amy served her dish without the rice papadum, Matt got in the first word, saying that she’s captured the “spirit” of the dish. Of course, common courtesy prevented Vikas from disagreeing. Matt basically ensured that Amy wouldn’t be eliminated for missing one of the elements on her plate. (Though, having the best chicken, she didn’t really need that safety net).
It’s the same thing that happened with Kira’s quinotto. Matt said it qualified as risotto before Marco could speak, so then it became risotto. It is always Matt, too, because a chef can always disagree with a fellow chef. Matt being a critic perhaps gives him more leverage over the guest chef. It’s his job to frame everyone else’s opinion.

Gary and George seemed to treat Vikas as more of a “MasterChef” person than a Michelin star person, whom they usually hold with more reverence (hey, that’s one more Michelin star than they have). Vikas was really nice, though. Is there a George to his Gary on MasterChef India, Mayu?

I wonder who will be back tonight. Probably Sarah. They showed Rachel, but… hrm, I guess she would make for an interesting foil on the show? If I put on my MasterChef producer hat, I’d feel that the show would benefit from a more divisive contestant. The gravity of the house is strongly centered on that group. A contestant who could come in and lure the outliers into another group would make for better viewing. I don’t think anyone but Rachel has the charisma to pull that off. Therefore, rig tonight’s challenge to get Rachel back in.
Yeah, I could produce this show.

22 Jasmine { 06.24.14 at 9:23 am }

Morning everyone! I’ve been a RR reader/ lurker for nearly a month but this is my first comment. I’ve enjoyed reading most of your comments re house rules and masterchef aus, although its a bit upsetting that they are not as they seemed if the outcomes are orchestrate by the producers/ judges.

My favourite constestants are Tash and Sarah, so I hope either one or both will be back tonight but somehow I doubt Tash will – from what I gather from the dicussion, regular updates on the social media = elimination/ not coming back to the show? If thats true, then Tash updates hers daily including a new post minutes ago – could this indicate that she is not coming back? Too much sooks/ cry babies in the top 12 I do hope the new addition/s will help to bring the waterworks down a notch and concentrate on the cooking.

23 Jasmine { 06.24.14 at 9:31 am }

*Corrections: too many sooks (not too much) in the top 10 (not 12) :)

24 emp { 06.24.14 at 9:34 am }

I dont give much weighting to the title of ‘top 10 amata cooks of 2014’ because really theyre not. They just happened to have some good luck.

Who do we think is coming back, my money is on sarah

25 fj { 06.24.14 at 10:15 am }

Not a fan of the bringing back eliminated contestants – they were eliminated for a reason – giving them a second chance is like a slap in the face for the remaining contestants who have survived thus far. They won’t be given a second chance will they?? Definately not – so why do it for the 14 eliminated contestants. It’s just an opportunity to bring back their favourite contestant who they were disappointed left in the first place as they couldn’t save her with raw chicken dish.

As with Poh – Series 1 – they wanted her to be in the competition from the get go – tell me what other contestant since the First Series that bought a dish to the try-outs and failed ie. dish wasn’t good enough (was then sent out to have another crack) with a camera in the car to do something traditional and have another stab at getting in the Top 24 – well holy crap batman – second try is amazing – your through to the Top 24!!

If your not going to be fair across the board – don’t do it – you think the audience are stupid?? I shake my head in wonder and disappointment Channel 10 & Shine. You lost me after last years debacle and I thought this year might be different…….

26 Littlepetal { 06.24.14 at 10:16 am }

Welcome Jasmine to RR.

Hope it is Sarah coming back.

The judges were told to build up the hype when MC started. I still can’t see how Nick and Georgia are the best pastry chefs on the show. Yes, they are quite good but not the best. Such BS.

27 Evan { 06.24.14 at 10:18 am }

I noticed that Byron since his elimination hasn’t done any TV interviews nor put up a Facebook or Twitter page – perhaps he gets back into the competition tonight?
He is certainly in the promo

28 Bianca { 06.24.14 at 10:23 am }

Byron? Please, God, no.

29 Simon { 06.24.14 at 10:29 am }

Lulu, come on dude, again with the straw man argument? I get you really have a thing against the support for Tash, not that you’ve particularly disliked her. Ok, that fair enough. No issue there. To say that there will be outbursts of racism, covert or overt, if Tash doesn’t make it back into the comp is just ridiculous.

The issues of racism, or to be more accurate allegations or suspicions of racism, has nothing to do with the producers or viewers and I don’t believe anyone has made such claims at all, so I don’t see how the support of previously ethnic contestants has anything to do with it. It has always been about a certain clique with the current contestants.

If things go as you say and there is an outburst of racism if Tash doesn’t make it back in, I’ll be right there with you pointing out how ridiculous it is. Just don’t misconstrue what the issue of possible racism was on about.

30 Simon { 06.24.14 at 10:41 am }

Jasmine #170 (and probably a few others), as much as I like seeing Tash as well as Sarah come back in for even just that one episode, let alone the rest of the comp, in regards to Tash, I would be surprised if she did get back in.

She mentioned in the news after she was eliminated the kind of situation she was in in the house as well at least allude to her mental state. I doubt that she would have been happy to be back in there or would look forward to returning to the house that for the most part were probably glad to see her go. We’ll have to see.

I’m glad to see some earlier favourites come back into the comp, like Scott and Emily for me. Don’t think they’ll stand a chance since they’ve been out of the comp for a while but would be nice to see them on the TV again :)

31 daisy { 06.24.14 at 10:49 am }

Simon, I am afraid calling racism does happen occasionally when a person of Asian, African or other does isn’t liked or is eliminated.

You can love ten Chinese, for instance, but dislike one and you’re racist. It does happen. Maybe you haven’t seen it yet.

You think, “No. I don’t like her/him because they’re a bitch”.
To me calling everything racist is just another form of racism.
When do we really just accept people good OR bad for their character and stop FOCUSSING on their race.

32 Erin { 06.24.14 at 10:53 am }

Think a strong chance Sarah will get back in – could see how much the judges didn’t want to eliminate her.
Would love to see Georgia come back, though – imagine! Never ending chances.
No chance of Byron, Nick or Sean coming back. I think they’re all nice and I enjoyed watching them, they’re just not up to scratch in comparison to Sarah or Tash.

33 Mayu { 06.24.14 at 11:20 am }

Thanks Zhee #164:- I will wait for the show to start!!! As a matter of fact they are airing it just one week behind Aus, but its being aired in star world premiere for which one needs to pay extra!!!! I will have to wait for it to air in star world india!!
Even the FB page has stopped posting for oversea viewers, saying they want to avoid spoilers, as if Fb is the only way for us to get the spoilers!!!
I also dont think oversea fans should complain about spoilers. You either unlike the page or deal with the spoilers!!! I just dont understand whats the big deal with it!!!

34 fj { 06.24.14 at 11:25 am }

Well said Daisy #179 – agree

35 daisy { 06.24.14 at 11:33 am }

Thanks fj.

36 Kim { 06.24.14 at 1:41 pm }

Daisy #179, very true! It can be very easy to take comments out of context and simply blame it on race. Instead of personality, character, class (not the caste kind, the dignity kind), etc…

37 Robin { 06.24.14 at 2:10 pm }

@daisy #179

I think you are right that does happen sometimes. I get annoyed when I see an accusation with no merit at all but I also think it is rare.
but I think regardless of the amount of merit in the claim people will really overeact when someone suggests that the issue could have anything to do with race. I can understand being annoyed by what they see as a false accusation but to the degree which people react is suprising to me.
There is a real hostility to the comments sometimes. I don’t understand why but I guess race is just a sensitive issue.

Also I think people can like or love someone as a person but still treat them unfairly or differently because of unexamined prejudices. No malicious intent necessary. For example a lot of my male relatives work in engineering where there is often only one or two females working at the same site as them.
If you talk to the male workers on the sites you can tell straight away that the women are treated differently and probably also unfairly in some ways. But it is also true that the male workers will genuinely like the women and probably consider them as friends or have no problem with the women. There is no ill intent but it doesn’t change how people will act in certain situations. It’s just how our culture works.

38 daisy { 06.24.14 at 2:30 pm }

You’re dead right Robin.

39 lulu { 06.24.14 at 6:56 pm }

Well Simon, it was really tongue-in-cheek. But …
You say there were no suspicions/allegations of racism – there were. Right here, by some people. I merely poo-pooed the theory and offered a couple of other reasons why Tash may have been disliked.

As Daisy implied, it’s an all too common fall-back and baseless. I think frivolous claims of racism should be discouraged because they make a mockery of real and actual racism, which is, of course, abhorrent. Covert, overt or any vert.

I think Tash is a very competent cook, certainly better than most left.
And I’m sooo glad I brought that up again(!)

40 daisy { 06.24.14 at 7:38 pm }

Yep Lulu, accusations need some substantiation. Even Judge Judy backs up her hunches with some evidence.

41 lulu { 06.24.14 at 7:43 pm }

Omg love Judge Judy! Even though she can be a bit of a bitch sometimes.

42 daisy { 06.24.14 at 8:26 pm }

Oh but Lulu, don’t they deserve it. :)

Love the way she can smell a rat.

43 LW { 06.24.14 at 8:37 pm }

Lulu #153, did you mean ‘stuff my date’?
So sorry, couldn’t resist…

44 Alec C { 06.25.14 at 12:55 pm }

Daisy, if Matt leaned over the balcony the railings would fall off due to the stress – like bolts on a sub where there is too much water pressure.
