I think we all agree Kat’s ears should stay in the bin.
She does’t need ears to be remembered when she has her snort. “Oink”.
Perhaps a curly tail??????

daisy – I actually thought Kat looked stunning as a brunette. Is that her natural hair color? Blonde looked kind of weird on her. I thought the ears were sorta cute, but that they detracted from her vocals – she seemed to spend too much energy being the “character” of Kat/Cat, that her vocals suffered. Standing still, in one spot, her voice sounded more full and controlled. Much more beautiful this time.

I’m not sure how iTunes does it’s rankings, but it looks like Robbie pulled ahead of Kat, and C Major pulled ahead of Elly Oh. Here’s what I just saw:

26. Sabrina Batshon
40. Jackson Thomas
50. Holly Tapp
56. Robbie Palmer
58. Kate Jade
61. ZK
68. Talia Gouge
71. C Major
72. Anja Nissen
75. Elly Oh
N/A John Lingard
N/A Gabriel & Cecilia
N/A Johnny Rollins
N/A Mat Verevis
N/A Frank Lakoudis
N/A Issac McGovern

N/A = No longer in Top 100 chart

Funny that 3 out of the 4 coach picks didn’t chart very well, and dropped out pretty fast.

Eliza!! Are you buying multiple downloads of Robbie Palmer to push him through? Shame on you! ;P

Meep, I didn’t notice her hair colour but her overstyle was bland and just not her. She could have had something less boring. But then given what a lot of the others were wearing, they would have screwed that up too.
Holly Tapp who usually has a nice style of her own, had a dress that was a mess.
I don’t remember what Sabrinacwore.
And Elly oh oh….was nesting, but didn’t lay an egg.

Thanks for that Meep #50. I thought that Showdowns hadn’t always been there, but wondered if I was starting to imagine things.
I have to agree with you on Kat’s hair change-not sure what’s natural but really liked the brunette look on her- as well as having more voice control from not jumping around as much. Speaking of, I’m not sure if Chris Martin was just miming, but it seemed as if he was singing live, and if so, I’m thoroughly impressed he can produce such a rich and controlled sound whilst jumping around like a member of Nirvana.

Lol Daisy #51
Dasiy#53 You’ve just reminded me about Elly’s costume- whoa! I was wondering why she was wearing one of Nikki Minaj’s wigs as a shrug.

Just in case anyone is interested, Candice Skjonnemand (formerly on Team Kylie) is doing a Crowd Funding campaign to raise money for her first EP and concert tour with several other solo artists. If you want to support her, follow this link:

I forgot to ask-who did Ricky end up saving? My tape cut out just before that part :(

…ignore that, I’ve just spotted the answer in Eliza’s earlier post.

Meep #48 – I like your picks for who you’d want to go. I would prefer C-Major over Elly. I also agree with your public vote – interesting that C-Major has now lifted and is ahead of Elly! I hope it stays that way.

Oh and no, I haven’t been voting for Robbie! Only because even though I don’t mind the song, it is too over-used here in ads on TV so I struggle to just listen to it now!

I hate the showdowns.. season 1 format was much better.

8 daisy { 06.26.14 at 5:54 pm }

Calorie, Ellie Oh oh was wearing Jonathon Livingston Seagull. 😆

9 Deano { 06.26.14 at 7:10 pm }

Frank, Johnny and G&C aren’t polling well but that’s coz their fans don’t need to vote this week.
Looks like Isaac, Mat, and John Lingard are going home. Too close to call between Ellly and C-Major

10 Meep { 06.26.14 at 10:23 pm }

daisy – it’s 6:20 am right now, and I’m getting ready to go to work (it’s too damn early, grumble). I’m still kind of bleary-eyed, and I swear I thought you typed Jonathon’s Living Seagull. I rubbed my eyes and blinked so much it woke me up.

Just wanted to mention to Meep, Eliza and Deano (in relation to the comments about Sabrina and the type of career she could have) that Kate Bush is one of the world’s best selling female artists and after 27 years of never touring she just announced her first concert – ever – and it sold out in 15 minutes. So talent can certainly make up for it and Sabrina can have a solid career as long as she comes up with massive album sales or hits. The real issue here is that Sabrina has a serious phobia and it seems probable that she never expected to have to deal with it or overcome it at this precise point in time. It was unexpected that they should all fly off to various international destinations. Given that her performance of Chandelier that was so outstanding, maybe she made the right decision to stay home and simply practise!

Just wondering what you guys think about why Ricky chose Jackson to go through – since Sabrina’s was so clearly a superior performance? Did he just not want to pick between Sabrina and Elly?

Btw I agree with everyone about the styling – it has been pretty hideous all season. I think it reached the apex in Elly Oh and Fely. That seemed to be the week the B&D madam took over the wardrobe department.

Samsara, I hadn’t realised about Kate Bush not touring. In saying that, she is most certainly quite an anomaly. Were you familiar with Sabrina on Aus Idol and do you think she could become as popular as someone like Kate Bush? Btw, these are not sarcastic questions in case they sound so haha. I am really not sure about that. She has an amazing voice and performs well but it’s so tough to ‘make it’. She has to have the guts to keep pushing. Will be interesting to see what happens!

I am not sure either about Ricky picking Jackson over Sabrina. I was shocked not because I don’t like Jackson but because Sabrina was so outstanding. Possibly he thought after that performance she would be safe, however I still would have saved her presuming that Jackson would be safe. I guess now with the iTunes charts and how well Jackson is going Ricky will know how popular he is.

Deano, it is interesting how Frank, Johnny and G&C are not doing too well on the iTunes downloads, yet Jackson, who is also safe, is second after Sabrina! Makes it hard to tell whether people really just aren’t voting because they are safe or that they don’t want to download the songs because they didn’t like them. I think for Johnny, people would much rather listen to the original so won’t download, not sure Frank will be that popular, really. Not sure about G&C as it was a very original take on the song, maybe Will saved them in case people wouldn’t take to the song and they haven’t?

I am think about this way too much!

Thanks Eliza for your reply. I was not familiar with Sabrina before this show at all as I’m not a fan of Idol, but I have just now watched some of her Idol youtubes and I think 5 years has made all the difference. Her audition for Idol was pretty wow – Nature Boy (ironic or auspicious seeing as Ricky then pairs her with Lionel Cole for Beauty and The Beast!). You are right, Kate Bush is an anomaly for sure, and generally with the current model of the music industry the only way you make money is touring. But even then it’s not great: Pink did hundreds of shows in 2009 and she only took home (reportedly) around $12 million from virtually an entire year of touring here in Australia. And that is hard, exhausting work. So yes, to be truly commercially and financially successful, ultimately she would have to figure out the touring thing. But with digital platforms allowing you to build a following imho she has time on her side.
I will say this about Sabrina and her potential for a successful career: you do not get the attention of a high profile manager like Barbara Streisand’s manager Ehrlich, if you don’t have a serious chance of a career. Like Clive Davis (Whitney Houston, Tina Turner et al) these managers really are in the business of picking winners and they wouldn’t even waste their time talking to someone let alone asking them to come to the US if there wasn’t something major that got their attention. If you look at each individual person on this series of The Voice there is no one even close to the sheer professionalism and the potential broad appeal of Sabrina. The Celine Dion song she nailed in the Blinds has already got nearly half a million views on YouTube. It has been a long time since Australia has produced a world class pop vocalist who can cross genres. She is possibly technically superior to Jessica Mauboy (who is also amazing) but Sabrina could be a Kelly Clarkson if properly managed, and, crucially if she can get the right / permanent treatment for the anxiety disorder that prevents her from flying!
So that’s why if she can sustain her consistency then my money is on Sabrina for the win.

(RR Hope this isn’t too long – sorry got a bit carried away! )

RR – comment 64 has my edits in it but for some reason it didn’t replace 63. If you can please delete 63 … And this one too please!! Thank you

16 Deano { 06.27.14 at 6:58 pm }

This is a great thread. Lots of detailed opinions. I’m interested if any of the judges save the same contestant. Joel seems to love Frank. If Frank gets saved again by the coach in the semis, he will be in the final without facing public voting. I reckon there should be a rule that you can only get 1 save by the coach..

17 Samsara { 06.27.14 at 10:46 pm }

Deano, the Frank thing has me a bit mystified. I couldn’t believe Will jumped out of his chair and practically ran across the stage to hug him – Dracula Cape and all – after the Kiss performance. Both Joel and Will seem to really dig him, and for sure he has the energy of a rockstar, but I’d say its a band thing only and they are thinking down the track. It is almost as if they are trying to give him as much exposure on the show as they can now. Guess it’s cheaper than putting together a video or three to shop him around, right? Will has said he uses The Voice as a fishing pond for talent and kind of waits until the politics (and presumably the various lock-up contracts) are all done and dusted (read: out of time) and then he grabs them. They probably know he won’t win but they can get him as a front man later. He seems like a nice guy I just don’t really think he is a “voice” per se. More a personality.

18 daisy { 06.28.14 at 11:24 am }

I have not enjoyed any of Frank’s performances.
Deano, did you see Caleb on American Idol? Now THAT is a rock singer. Frank comes across as Wiggles Rock.

He needs a green polo neck skivvy …and black cape.

Samasara a fish and chip shop owner or butcher shop owner usually has a good personality. I don’t know if it’s enough to make them all rock stars. :)

19 daisy { 06.28.14 at 11:32 am }

Sorry, Samsara.
RR won’t let me edit atm.

Look even my emo has a good personality 😆

20 Eliza { 06.28.14 at 3:08 pm }

Haha, Daisy!

I don’t get the Frank love either. He doesn’t have ‘it’ in my opinion either.

I agree, Deano, they should only be able to be saved once.. I would be interested if he would have done better on the iTunes chart if he weren’t safe. I doubt it.

21 Deano { 06.28.14 at 8:06 pm }

I did some research on who the coaches saved last year. In live show 2, the coaches saved Steve Clisby, Miss Murphy, Kiyomi Vella, Mitchell Anderson. They all got eliminated by the public vote in the semi final. Moral of the story: the voting public get the final say.

22 Deano { 06.28.14 at 8:25 pm }

Hi Daisy. I don’t watch American Idol but I just googled Caleb singing with Kiss. Wow. He’s a couple of classes better than Frank Lakoudis.
And no stupid Dracula cape

23 Samsara { 06.28.14 at 8:28 pm }

Haha Daisy! Sometimes the ghost in the machine wins… Yes, I know his personality is hmmmm. I mean, at least he is having a shot at his dream so all power to him, or ahem, the voting public.
And yes, Eliza and Deano I agree it should be one save only. I also think it should really only be battles for those who are marginal. In other words the public votes early so the battles are between those who don’t pull it off in terms of getting the public support. Maybe all the tunes should be available on iTunes from the beginning so you can clearly track it. Could be kind of wild!

24 daisy { 06.28.14 at 9:16 pm }

Yeah, Samsara. You can’t blame a guy for trying.

25 Calorie Loader { 06.28.14 at 10:42 pm }

Good one Daisy@58. At one point I was going with shaved orangutan hair, dyed and blow dried.

Samsara, I too would songs from the blinds onwards to be on itunes. There are plenty of great singers that get ditched early and their recordings are not available when I have looked.

26 Calorie Loader { 06.28.14 at 10:48 pm }

*would like ^

27 daisy { 06.28.14 at 11:37 pm }

Calorie, I just did a Fargo marathon of 5 eps. It was a good watch.

28 Calorie Loader { 06.29.14 at 3:05 am }

holy shite Daisy, that is impressive…and one gruesome load. I take it you’re up to date then? I’m still a couple behind.

29 daisy { 06.29.14 at 7:16 am }

I am up to date and finished the season.

Hi,I have a comment on Rickys choice of singers in the voice.Out of the top 4 the only one that should not have gotten through as far as they did was Jackson.I truely beleive that he left out the winner in the other three singers.Yes granted Jackson can sing but not in the same class as the other three.So it was a big surprise to see him get so far.And may i add he was surprised himself.I even had horrible thoughts that Ricky took a liking to him.But never Jackson as his top singer.I know it came down to public voting in the end but Ricky started the ball rolling and i think he was dead wrong.And im done with the griping and im glad i got that off my chest because it had been bugging me ever since they got down to the last four.Thanks.
