tyroc, the three of them were all from Queensland. Maybe it’s a state bond like Tracy with Laura and Colin.

I wasn’t able to watch tonight’s episode so will have to catch the replay but it looks like there was a bit of drama tonight.

Dinner at theChina City ended up being really good. And they gave us a free dish of chilli basil mussels.
That’s because I taught their kids years ago.
They always brought me fod to school.

Mayu, I don’t prefer high end Indian. I like very low end kitchen. The more the cook has a scratch of his bits and pieces, the better.

What was the point of splitting the recipe into three parts, how ridiculous.

So pretty much everyone I dislike is a protected species (Emelia, Jamie, Renae) but the people I don’t really mind keep leaving. Get rid of team smug once and for all.

In previous Season 1 of Masterchef China, all of them had to catch, kill and cook live eels for invention test.

There is an article in daily mail: ‘I felt incredibly betrayed’: MasterChef’s Kira Westwick reveals she felt devastated by her ‘friend’ and contestant Tracy’s underhand tactics as she’s eliminated from competition

interesting ivelina @ 105. i also assumed kira and tracy were buddies (from the vic market challenge). i don’t understand why she screwed her up in the invention test and in the pressure test.

Easiest way to kill them, just chop off the head..

I knew Kira got eliminated from the 10 contestants shown in the next team challenge. But how did she get eliminated as I am in Thailand and can’t watch MC?

Now we have bitter and twisted:

Let’s start with Renae. My reaction to the eel probably would have been on par with hers and rather than cry like a baby probably would just cop the fact I would be going into elimination. Gary had no right to ask Colin to cut the eel up for cry baby. Renae has outstayed her welcome. The sooner she is eliminated the better. Pure unadulterated bogan. Tats and spacers.

Kira. No sympathy there either. Croquembouche has been a standard dish since S1. You are going on MC you damn well know how to make the staples. Hell, even the children on MCJr had that one in the bag. Have any of these contestants actually watched MC????????

Why is Kira so surprised Tracey is using her power? There is a substantial $$$ at the end.

There are no stand outs in this season. Hope Emilia wins.

Totally agree with your comment, GVL #89. The pandering to certain contestants this season has been a major turn off.

Just caught up with the show.

Littlepetal, there was only one copy of the recipe which was split into thirds which Tracy hands out – Profiteroles, Caramel and Assembly intructions, and the Creme patissiere. Colin got the part he needed (caramel & assembly) as per Tracy’s favouritism. Since Jamie knew profiteroles from his Christy Tania challenge, to “even” the playing field, she gave that to Jamie and Kira the creme patissiere. What wasn’t made apparent was that Jaime already knew how to make creme patissiere from Renae during the top 50 and Kira from her exit interview with Daily Mail said Tracy knew that Kira hates baking so keeping the baking part from her was an intentional slight. Also, Kira was familiar with making creme patissiere so that part of the recipe didn’t help her at all.

Kira experiments with the choux and gets one that ends up cakey and crumbly but they rise first time. All her other elements work out great, good caramel and best creme patissiere and she’s the first to successfully build her croquembouche.

Colin was middle of the road. The only best he got from the judges were the size of the profiteroles and tightness of his construction. He had trouble with his spun sugar not forming long strings.

Jamie started strong with his choux getting it right first time. He had massive trouble with his creme patissiere as he kept pulling it off the heat before it boiled (scared of curdling eggs) so it wouldn’t thicken. The judges stop him just as he’s putting it in the fridge and run through the recipe with him giving him a major clue as to what he was doing wrong i.e. not letting the mixture come to a boil. They even said “So, you brought it to a boil, right?”. Jamie then takes it out of fridge and recooks it. Gary then saves him a second time hinting very strongly that he had to boil it out and his thinking about it curdling was wrong. Afterwards then Gary tells Jamie to step aside and cooks it for him.

Just kidding about the last part but they might as well have. Jamie was destined to failure and the only reason why he wasn’t was because of the judges.

In judging, general positive for Colin barring spun sugar. For Jamie, Gary’s first profiterole was empty but his second was good. Very positive comments on the caramel and Matt deems it best croquembouche in the history of the show ever. Kira’s was deemed best creme patissiere, good caramel but cakey/crumbly profiteroles.

Judges found good and faults in each. Decision was on which one you’d be happy to buy and eat.

Very surprised that Kira was the one to go and given her interview in the daily mail, her reaction of tearing up when the recipe bits were portioned out made even more sense. Kira seemed way too upset for it just to be a bad roll of the dice. Tracy now comes off as giving a totally BS but diplomatically sounding reason to put Kira at a severe disadvantage.

Also the judges helping Jamie as much as they did was utter BS. It’s good that the gantry didn’t chime in but they didn’t need to with that kind of help.

Also, wtf regarding the immunity challenge with Colin and Laura along with Tracy. Oh, really disliking this Power Apron now.

As a strange aside, the judges wardrobe looked like they were giving a nod to The Wiggles.

Given Kira’s revelations, aside from the tears mentioned earlier, it adds even more weight to when she tells Sarah to win the competition or she will kill her. I presume Kira knows very well what Sarah is up against and that she’s very much on her own.

Snippets from news of “The Betrayal of Kira Westwick by the Coward Tracy Collins”:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2674703/MasterChefs-Kira-Westwick-reveals-felt-hurt-contestant-Tracy-Collins-underhand-tactics-shes-eliminated-competition.html

‘She said she was the most intimidated by how well I was doing throughout the competition so she took the profiterole recipe off me which is the absolute foundation’

‘I felt incredibly betrayed, I actually saw her as one of my friends.’

‘I actually supported her in getting the Power Apron so I couldn’t have been more shocked when she chose to target me with her power.’

‘I wouldn’t have made that same decision and I was surprised she made that decision, I’m trying to see it as a positive.’

https://au.tv.yahoo.com/news-and-gossip/article/-/24352414/eliminated-westwick-betrayed-on-masterchef/

“I am still in shock and feel really betrayed by Tracy because she was one of my friends in the house,”

“I 100 per cent trusted her and I never would have targeted her in the same way just out of that value of friendship.”

“She (Tracy) knew me well enough to know that I probably didn’t know a profiterole recipe.”

http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/gold-coast-mum-kira-westwick-punted-from-masterchef-after-pastry-fail/story-fnj94j0t-1226972872027

“She was able to take away the pastry recipe from me and I’m not a pastry cook, I’m a healthy cook, so I didn’t know a recipe at all,” Kira said yesterday.

“I was distraught in the beginning and a little bit hard done by but I had to get on with it and wing it, basically.

“I just have to look at it as a compliment and she said so herself, that she was intimidated by the consistency with which I cooked on MasterChef.”

Mayu and Mr C, I have never seen beef on any menus in India. Even the Isla mic run places only had chicken, lamb and maybe goat. Fish too in some places such as Goa and Kovalum.

Jamie received too much assistance w/ the creme patissiere. Gary gave him multiple hints and then Amy yelled down something helpful, too. If they hadn’t helped him he would have been out of the competition. As for the his being the best croquembouche ever, there are so many dishes this season that have been labeled the best ever and then the statements that these are the best cooks ever, so I take that statement about Jamie’s croquembouche w/ a very large grain of salt.
As for Kira, if Tracy knew that Kira really had no clue on how to do the choux pastry then giving Jamie that recipe and not Kira just shows that she is not a friend. However, this is a competition and many of them will do whatever they can to win. Supposedly Tracy’s thoughts were to give Jamie a recipe that he was familiar with rather than give him something that he didn’t know how to do. However, based on the fact that she gave Kira 15 mins. w/ the turkey leg and then didn’t give her the choux recipe, I think that she was trying to remove her from the competition rather than keep her as a friend.

Eel, oh dear, I would have thrown up if I had to cook with it. My great-grandfather was fishing them while I still was a child and then slit them open in our garden. I always ran away in disgust of them and didn’t want to go into the garden. Also they stink. And worst of it, the still move when my great-grandmother put them into the pan. 😉 Wahhh, seeing that as a 6 year old causes trauma. 😀

Mayu, I had some Indian food on Saturday. A simple Poulet Madras (in France they also sell beef versions), but it’s very tame here as the French have a dislike of spicy food (the same food you are getting in Germany is way spicier, even though it won’t come close to the original Indian dishes). Europeans water everything down and we usually only get a glimpse of how the food would actually taste like.

And hell, Kira is 31 according to those articles? Seriously? Her healthy food shit doesn’t seem to help her skin though. I thought she’s 38 or 39….

PS: Thank you Australia. One of your TV stations provided us with the only working internet stream for Algeria vs Germany (I hate soccer but my sister loves it and wants us to subscribe to French television, so she can watch soccer… even though she doesn’t speak French… but hey… soccer -.-). So we watched the soccer game in an Australian version. 😀 One might think that there’s a European stream available. Haha, nooot… -.- Oh, you’re in France and can’t watch BBC, or German streams…
I also realized that soccer is a really boring game with people in weird garments….

Sorry, Jay, I meant Brett not Colin, got a bit confused.

People on reality shows that feel betrayed when their ‘best friend’ stabs them in the back, need to remember they have only known them for a few months. They have not known them their whole lives. They are there to win not to make friends. Everything they do is strategic, not personal. I think they need to keep things in perspective.

The gallery were commenting among themselves when Jamie kept taking it off the stove, why didn’t they yell out to him to leave it on like they do other times. Sometimes they will call out hints, other times they just talk among themselves when they see a mistake being made.

I have made profiteroles & creme patisserie a million times, but always with a recipe. I could not even imagine trying to make it without a recipe. I know the ingredients, but not the quantities, which is crucial for things like that.

The judges are inconsistent, other times people have been eliminated for leaving out the filling of something. I wonder if any of the others had left any empty. They would have to break the lot of them to check.

Thanks Simon for the recap.
Isn’t it strange that Colin is in the Pressure Test and Immunity challenge.

Kira is making herself a Saint. I understand that she is a nutritional coach and most probably on a paleo diet. But by going on a cooking show you have to know how to make pastry etc etc.
She forgot this is a competition and $250K is at stake.

So its a joke with the best ever Crocquembuche.

21 Simon { 07.01.14 at 10:14 am }

Carole, I got the vague sense that maybe they were muzzled. Kira must have gotten some help cause to make choux from out of knowing nothing about it didn’t seem right how quickly she had gotten in the ballpark. Kira’s first question to Sarah was whether to use whole eggs or not when that’s a part that comes much later in the process. However, when Jamie had the issues with the creme pattisiere, Emelia staying quiet when she could have just shouted out to leave it til it boils seemed very odd. So maybe some help was given at the start but it was stamped down, so it didn’t happen later. Except, when it came to Colin having trouble with the spun sugar, there was a ton of advice about technique of how to get it out by a number of people. Something doesn’t sit right about that, particularly if Colin is the main one that’s openly given advice and the others less so.

Littlepetal, Kira said herself that she was expecting a recipe like with previous pressure tests so she didn’t bother learning it and for other stuff, I guess she was playing the odds that either she’s be able to do something else or someone on her team would know how to do it.

22 Littlepetal { 07.01.14 at 10:36 am }

Kira can’t expect recipes for things she doesn’t know. I think in an earlier episode she said she has never made pasta before but she nailed it. Lucky she was able to do it.

In one of the knife pull, Matt P pulled out éclair. She could have to make éclair without recipes. Maybe she was hoping to substitute it with her healthy option.

23 Carole { 07.01.14 at 1:05 pm }

Interesting point Simon, that may be the case.

24 alicia { 07.01.14 at 2:46 pm }

I am actually stunned at Kiras allegations. It’s a competition and of course others will play strategically. What else could you expect?
