Arena TV Is Rocking It With Reality TV In September

I am seriously hoping to catch the ebola virus for the month of September by the look of what Arena has got on its programming next month.

Top Chef Washington will premiere on Sunday at 7.30pm on the 12 September. The luscious Padma Lakshmi and hunky Tom Colluchio are returning as hosts of this cooking competition where professional chefs battle it out for the title of Top Chef. If you like Masterchef you will love this. In fact quite a few aspects of the Australian version of Masterchef are taken from Top Chef. Well that is my opinion and I am sticking to it.

Project Runway Season 7 will see the crew returning to New York. This will premiere on September 13, Mondays at 8.30pm. Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Michael Kors and Neeeeeeeennna Garcia are all returning. This will have to help us get over that there won’t be an Australian version of the show this year.

Models of the Runway, will again follow it on September 13, Mondays at 9.30pm. This is a companion series to Project Runway, which follows the models on the show. I hope they continue to keep it to a half hour show, as this got a bit tedious once all the nuttier models were eliminated last season.

And also one of my favourite reality shows Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew Pinsky returns for it third season on September 16 at 9.30pm. This is not the Rachael Uchitel one which is currently filming but the series has celebrities Dennis Rodman, Heidi Fleiss, Joey Kovar, Kari Anne Peniche, Lisa D’Amato, Mackenzie Phillips, Mike Starr, Mindy McCready and Tom Sizemore going through an intensive 21-day detox and treatment program.

All-new to Arena is Launch My Line where celebrities will design, cut and stitch their way through a one-of-a-kind creative competition to determine who has the vision to go from icon to fashion star and launch a trendsetting clothing label.

Premiering September 8, Wednesdays at 8.30pm, the celebrity contestants will each be paired with a fashion expert, who will supply the technical know-how to implement the celebrity’s creative vision.

Most of the time I am a bit dubious of reality shows with celebrities in them, Celeb Rehab being the exception, but this is from the Bravo stable which I do worship at the altar of. So will give it a look even though the premise looks a bit spurious.

Another Bravo show that Arena premiering on September 14, Tuesdays at 9.30pm, is 9 By Design. The series follows husband and wife design team, Bob and Cortney Novogratz and their seven children. Owners of New York based design firm, Sixx Design, this young, hip and artsy couple have developed and designed unique properties in Manhattan, rebuilt entire blocks in the city, and turned funky into fabulous with taste and confidence.

I hope this is more Top Design, than Kate and Jon Plus 8.

Top Chef Washington DC To Start In September

Good news for all those people wanting another foodie reality TV show to watch. Top Chef Washington DC will premiere on 12 September on Arena.

Other shows starting on Arena in September are Project Runway the US version on the 13 September, and Celebrity Rehab Season three on the 16th.

Celebrity Rehab looks to be a cracker as it will have Heidi Fleiss, Tom Sizemore, Mackenzie Phillips and Dennis Rodman.

Casting for Season 4 of the show also looks interesting with Tiger Wood’s former mistress Rachael Uchitel signing on, as well as Janice Dickinson (possibly for her addiction for being on reality shows?) and Leif Garrett.

Ricki-Lee Coulter To Face Court On Driving Charge

News.com.au say Ricki-Lee will be face court for driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle.

Project Runway Season 6 – Exit Interviews

Ari Fish was the first designer eliminated from Project Runway, here is an elimination interview from Blogging Project Runway and Reality Wanted where quite frankly Ari sounds like a twat.

And let’s face it Michael Kors was right it did look like a soccer disco ball.

Padma Lakshmi Not Interested In Reconciling With The Father Of The Baby

However he is more interested in getting more “liberal visitation rights” says Celebrity Gossip

Latest Amazing Race Still Has No Screening Date On Seven

TV Tonight quite rightly points out that Channel Nine are rocking it with Survivor Heroes V Villains, as it is now uptodate with the US, and Channel Seven are being slack and have not announced an premiere date for the latest series of the fabulous The Amazing Race.

The Wait Is Over Project Runway Is Coming Back On

Meryl Streep in a Chris March dress at the Oscars

The US series of Project Runway will be back on Arena next week, but before we see the new season set in Los Angeles, there will be a one off All-Star Challenge.

This will screen on Monday night on Arena at 8.30pm.

The Project Runway All-Star Challenge is as the name suggests is a mix of contestants from the previous seasons.

They are:

 • Mychael Knight - Season 3
 • Jeffrey Sebelia - Season 3
 • Uli Herzner – Season 3
 • Santino Rice – Season 2
 • Daniel Vosovic – Season 2
 • Chris March – Season 4
 • Korto Momolu – Season 5
 • Sweet P – Season 4

The winner of the challenge will take home $100,000. Not bad for a couple of days work.

Golden Globes Dresses From Project Runway Alumni

Newly married Christina Hendricks,from television series "Mad Men" in a nude dress with a ruffle skirt by Christian Siriano. Photo: AP Photo and Getty

Project Runway winner Christian Siriano designed this gown for Mad Men star Christina Hendricks. All I can say is the Hollywood tape must be working overtime, however it is great to see a real woman on the red carpet.

Chris March designed Meryl Streep’s who won a golden globe dress. Hopefully this mean she is a Project Runway fan which would be pretty cool. If I can find a full length shot I will change the photo. Speaking of Project Runway the US edition will finally be screened here in March. However I need to clarify whether it is the series set in LA which was screened in the US at the end of last year, or the new one that started screening in the US this week. Also for Project Runway Australia fans, they will be replaying the whole of Season 2 on Australia Day, if you have not seen it this show it is as good if not better then its US counterpart. Arena TV will be sticking with it as they have announced a third season will be filmed this year.

Project Runway Stars Will Be Seen At Melbourne Fashion Week

juli-grbac

L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Week was launched yesterday, and Project Runway Australia’s winner Juli Gbrac will be showing a collection, as will judge Jayson Brundson . Their collections will be shown on Tuesday March 17 on the L’Oreal Paris Runway.

The other Project Runway Designer to show will be Lui Hon for Von who will be showcasing his clothes on the Independent Runway which will be sponsored by Channel 10.

In overseas Project Runway news, the finale for the yet to be screened Project Runway Series 6 finale will be filmed at next weeks New York Fashion Week. The current series is currently in court and it is unknown when it will be screened.

Project Runway series 1 winner Jay McCarroll will also be showing at New York Fashion week. Jay who turned down the $100,000 prize money citing a contractual clause that gave the Project Runway production company 10% stake in all his professional ventures for perpetuity. Is that legal?

Anyway a documentary called Eleven has been made of what happens McCarroll after he exited the reality TV show. It is being shown on Bravo on February 20, so hopefully Arena will pick it up and show it here.

Reality Tidbits

Joanne Pacitti is this year’s Carly Smithson in American Idol genertating some controversy with the fact she has previously had a record contract, and had one of her songs covered by Britany Spears. MTV has the best article on the saga and gives a good summary of her show biz past.

Whitney Thompson the plus size model who won America’s Next Top Model is getting plenty of work, in this article here she tells us that she has pressure to both increase and decrease her weight, she is currently size 10.

If you live in the US and you have a bit of cash, you may want to bid on tickets to sit front row at Project Runway winner Christian Siriano’s New York fashion week show. The money will benefit the New York Restoration Project. More details here.

Ever wondered why we see some auditions on American Idol and not others. Well it all comes down to getting and paying for the song rights. The Seattle Times has a great article on this issue, and how it means we sometimes don’t see some contestants until the top 36! Did anyone see Jason Castro until the top 24 rounds last year?

Project Runway – Season 1 Is Rescreening on Arena, The Show Has Definately Evolved.

Tonight Arena TV started a repeat of Season 1 Project Runway, which I have never seen.
Can you believe that Tim Gunn was not paid for the first series?
It was interesting to watch how the show has evolved.
Some things I noted:
 • Heidi Klum, the host, seems to be friendlier to the contestants in season 1, she now is much more formal with them;
 • Heidi wore the same outfit twice, once when meeting the contestants at the apartments (something else she would not do now) and then when she was on the runway telling them what the challenge is;
 • Heidi’s look is much more polished and dressed up, in this episode it was a Kiss t-shirt and jeans not some micro mini designer dress;
 • Michael Kors appears thinner;
 • Nina Garcia’s hair appears to be the same style (ok that is something that has not evolved and the fact Michael Kors is still wearing the same clothes.);
 • Banana Republic accessory wall, which is now the Bluefly.com wall;
 • The had an hour to shop for material’s in the grocery store, in challenges now they only have 30 minutes;
 • They did not mention immunity of the next round for the winner, maybe they will mention that next episode.
 • Heidi shook hands with the eliminated contestant and did not kiss them on both cheeks. Of course she said Auf Widershen (sic).
Can anyone think of anything else I missed?
Austin’s corn dress was innovative, but did it deserve to win? Husks were falling off the runway. Nina Garcia would be scathing about that in later seasons.

-

I thought Nora’s blue outfit made out of an outdoor seat and placemats rocked and deserved first place.

Project Runway’s Kenley Collins – Narcissitic Personality Disorder?

-

“I wasn’t trying to be elegant Hei-di” spat out Project Runway’s Kenley Collins in tonight’s episode of Project Runway in response to host Heidi Klum’s criticism of her dress.

In the penultimate episode before New York Fashion Week at Bryant Park the task was to make an evening gown that has an organic feel based on being inspired by flora at New York Botanic Gardens.

However tonight’s episode was more about contestant Kenley Collins rather then the fashions.

Kenley appears to have a talent for rubbing the people the wrong way. But she is completely perplexed on how she manages to alienate her peers.

It got me thinking does Kenley have a narcissistic personality disorder?
Mental Health defines narcissistic personality disorder as a condition characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, need for admiration, extreme self-involvement, and lack of empathy for others.

Individuals with this disorder are usually arrogantly self-assured and confident. They expect to be noticed as superior. Many highly successful individuals might be considered narcissistic. However, this disorder is only diagnosed when these behaviors become persistent and very disabling or distressing.

Vulnerability in self-esteem makes individuals with this disorder very sensitive to criticism or defeat. Although they may not show it outwardly, criticism may haunt these individuals these individuals and may leave them feeling humiliated, degraded, hollow, and empty. They may react with disdain, rage, or defiant counterattack.

Their social life is often impaired due to problems derived from entitlement, the need for admiration, and the relative disregard for the sensitivities of others. Though their excessive ambition and confidence may lead to high achievement; performance may be disrupted due to intolerance of criticism or defeat.

Ok so that is my diagnosis via google.

But love her or hate her she sure has made Project Runway Season 5 entertaining.
