So You Think You Can Dance – Season 5 – Top 20

SYTYCD Season 5 US Top 20

The auditions are over, they have been to Las Vegas, and now Season 5 has its Top 20. Tonight on Channel Ten at 8.30pm the Top 20 shows commence and the eliminations begin.

The top 20 are: Jeanine Mason, Phillip Chbeeb, Asuka Kondoh,Vitolio Jeune, Karla Garcia, Jonathan Platero, Randi Evans, Evan Kasprzak, Paris Torres, Tony Bellissimo, Caitlin Kinney, Jason Glover, Janette Manrara, Brandon Bryant, Ashley Valerio, Kupono Aweau, Melissa Sandvig, Ade Obayomi,  Kayla Radomski, and Max Kapitannikov.

A surprise  and shocking early elimination from the Las Vegas was Natalie Reid who had performed one of the best auditions this season. In fact how she was cut ahead of the very ordinary Caitlin Kinney is beyond me.

Uber choreographer Mia Michaels was not happy with the inclusion of amazing dancer Brandon Bryant. I suspect this is a bit of a set up. She of course by the end of the season be his biggest champion etc, etc.

One thing that I found interesting that Mia said in the auditions, was that she does not usually connect with women. Was she trying to put those gay rumour to rest for once and for all?

Nigel Lythgoe spoke to TV Week recently and said expect to see Jason Gilkison and Kelley Abbey on the show this season, and of course our Australian winner Talia will be on the US show’s season finale.

I will commencing recaps of the show tonight, as well as having an open post on the show at the request of a regular Reality Ravings reader.

Australian viewers should be aware the show is running a few weeks behind the US, so if googling beware if you don’t want to stumble across any spoilers.

So You Think You Can Dance – Where Are They Now?

So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 commenced last night on Channel Ten, and it looks like again there is going to be some sensational dancers on the show.

Props to Nigel Lythgoe and the way he critiqued Tiffany in the New York audition who only had three vertebrates. He was non-condescending and gave her an honest appraisal, and then finished off with a you are very inspiring speech.

Anyway what has happened to the previous winners of this US series? TV Week had an update.

Joshua Allen, the Season 4 winner has moved to LA. He’s in a Honda commercial and MC Little Boots video. He shoots Step Up 3D in June, and teaches hip-hop dance. “Am I an expert because of the show or my skill?” he asks. “Either way, it’s pretty cool.

Sabra Johnson winner of Season 3 is a member of the New York’s Cedar Lake Dance Company. When her schedule permits, she teaches with the New York City Dance Alliance. She recently performed at the St Louis Auto Show and at the annual “Evening of Dance” event in Alabama.

Benji Schwimmer who won Season 2 had a cameo on Dancing With the Stars (where his sister is a pro). He stars in the upcoming film Love N’Dancing and the Christina Aguilera videoclip “Candyman”. He’s also said he plans to appear in a film called Move.
