MasterChef Australia – Reality Tidbits
MasterChef Australia judge Gary Mehigan in the Sun-Herald magazine talks about a day in his life with food. It sounds sensational, and like a lot of us he starts with good intentions but heads rapidly downhill after that.
His day consisted of the following:
Breakfast: Home-made granola with nuts, flax seed, pumpkin seeds, oats and a little honey – I add dried fruit, dates, figs or currants for extra sweetness. Plus Greek yoghurt with fresh papaya, and a cup of ginger tea, because I have to wean myself off too many coffees.
Lunch: It all goes wrong here. A shared lunch with fellow MasterChef judges Matt [Preston] and George [Calombaris]: deep-fried zucchini flowers with three cheeses, and shredded savoy cabbage with parmesan and balsamic, followed by Cod brandade on brioche with a mussel vinaigrette- oh my God! Then Dory fillets with green beans and anchovies; a twisted pasta with prawns, chilli, garlic and olive oil; and banoffe pie and Eton mess for dessert. I blame Matt for the lack of self control.
Dinner: My wife has cooked a roast chicken with garlic and thyme; she worries that I’m not eating well because I’m working hard! Roasted fennel and little crisp spuds await. I have a beer, followed by a couple of glasses of Plozner pinot grigio.
The lunch meal sounds like it was at Cafe Sopra in Sydney.
In other MasterChef news it would appear the finalists are still around Sydney. Justine was at the Sydney Good Food & Wine Show, up on stage with the judges. I hope this is not an indication she won. Let’s hope Channel Ten can keep it a secret for the next two weeks.
Also Julia and Chris have been spotted dining out twice last week. Once at Becasse (where Chris had lunch that time with the three chefs after winning the pigs head challenge), and Lucio’s in Paddington.
This is not going to help the rumours circulating about them.
