MasterChef Australia – Reality Tidbits

MasterChef midgetsMasterChef Australia judge Gary Mehigan in the Sun-Herald magazine talks about  a day in his life with food. It sounds sensational, and like a lot of us he starts with good intentions but heads rapidly downhill after that.

His day consisted of the following:

Breakfast: Home-made granola with nuts, flax seed, pumpkin seeds, oats and a little honey – I add dried fruit, dates, figs or currants for extra sweetness. Plus Greek yoghurt with fresh papaya, and a cup of ginger tea, because I have to wean myself off too many coffees.

Lunch: It all goes wrong here. A shared lunch with fellow MasterChef judges Matt [Preston] and George [Calombaris]: deep-fried zucchini flowers with three cheeses, and shredded savoy cabbage with parmesan and balsamic, followed by Cod brandade on brioche with a mussel vinaigrette- oh my God! Then Dory fillets with green beans and anchovies; a twisted pasta with prawns, chilli, garlic and olive oil; and banoffe pie and Eton mess for dessert. I blame Matt for the lack of self control.

Dinner: My wife has cooked a roast chicken with garlic and thyme; she worries that I’m not eating well because I’m working hard! Roasted fennel and little crisp spuds await. I have a beer, followed by a couple of glasses of Plozner pinot grigio.

The lunch meal sounds like it was at Cafe Sopra in Sydney.

In other MasterChef news it would appear the finalists are still around Sydney. Justine was at the Sydney Good Food & Wine Show, up on stage with the judges.  I hope this is not an indication she won. Let’s hope Channel Ten can keep it a secret for the next two weeks.

Also Julia and Chris have been spotted dining out twice last week. Once at Becasse (where Chris had lunch that time with the three chefs after winning the pigs head challenge), and Lucio’s in Paddington.

This is not going to help the rumours circulating about them.

Given CH10’s trackrecord with bad editing all season…I suspect Jutine is the winner. Is it possible that due to the high ratings they extended the number of original shows when the brought back the three “second chance” contestants? The Food Show would have been booked months in advance and may originally have followed the MC winner announcement. Now with the extra shows they have a longer schedule but still had to meet their Food Show commitment. So I bet Justine is the winner!

The rumours about Chris and Julia are 100% true.

No they aren’t. Julia has a lovely live in boyfriend, and Chris is nearly 20 years older than her.

Isn’t Matt a bright-eyed boy! This would make a lovely Christmas card, four smiling poppets!

Julia broke up with her “lovely live-in boyfriend” quite a few weeks ago, and Chris with his girlfriend last week. They are definitely together, age difference or not.

Hey what about Andre and Poh? Do you know if they are an item!?

Andre and Poh are just friends – very close friends, but friends nonetheless.
