Fans of Project Runway will be pleased the 11th season of the hit reality series will start on Wednesday August 7 on Arena TV.
Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn will continue to headline the series as host and mentor. Something that will make it more interesting for Australian fans is that one of our own is a contestant.
Benjamin Mach who is 35 years-old was born in Sydney. Mach is a highly-qualified and well-rounded designer whose work has graced the runways of Sydney, London, Paris, Madrid and Miami. His love of fashion began at an early age and after graduating from The Sydney Institute of Technology – Fashion Design Studio he immediately started showing his own line at Australian Fashion Week, before moving to London where he worked with major brands Marchesa, WINTLE and the Spanish label Roberto Torretta. Benjamin is currently based in New York.
Hopefully he stays in for a few episodes. The series has already aired in the US so best to not google on the interwebs about the show if you don’t want to stumble across any spoilers.
There is also a twist this season to keep it fresh – all 16 designers will be participating in the series’ first-ever teams edition. The team challenges are taken to a whole new level as the designers must work together for every challenge while ensuring their own garments stand out on the runway. Which is code for lots of bitching and fighting.
The winner receives $100,000 from L’Oréal Paris, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a 2013 Lexus GS 350 plus an opportunity to design and sell an exclusive collection at Lord & Taylor.
Joining Klum on the judging panel is Marie Claire’s Fashion Director Nina Garcia and fashion designer Zac Posen. Also Project Runway favourite Michael Kors will serve as the finale guest judge.
Project Runway Australia Season 11 starts on Arena TV on 7 August at 8.30pm.

This blog post was requested as a stand alone post rather then as a part of Reality Tidbits, which says a lot about what my readers want to discuss.
Tim Gunn the lovely and not unattractive mentor on Project Runway has revealed that he has not had sexual relations in 29 years. Yes folks that is nearly three decades. It is not for any political reasons like wanting to save himself for marriage but it has not been legal for him to do so.
Dlisted writes that Tim Gunn revealed on his TV show that he had not had any horizontal or non-horizontal action for 29 years by his own choice.
Tim Gunn revealed:
“I haven’t had sex in 29 years. Do I feel like less of a person for it? No. Not even remotely.
It’s very personal. I was in a very intense relationship for a long time. And my partner ended it, saying that, quite frankly, he was impatient with my sexual performance.
I’m a perfectly fulfilled person, but it’s very physiological. I have feelings. It’s not as though I’m some barren forest. I don’t want to imply to anyone that I have a mandate that says no sex. I don’t. I don’t know what’s around the corner.”
It is not unusual for people to not have sex for up to 20 years but that is because it is illegal for the first 16 years of our lives, obviously the ex-boyfriend was emotionally abusive. Tim Gunn deserves a nice guy who do you think he should hook up with?

I am seriously hoping to catch the ebola virus for the month of September by the look of what Arena has got on its programming next month.
Top Chef Washington will premiere on Sunday at 7.30pm on the 12 September. The luscious Padma Lakshmi and hunky Tom Colluchio are returning as hosts of this cooking competition where professional chefs battle it out for the title of Top Chef. If you like Masterchef you will love this. In fact quite a few aspects of the Australian version of Masterchef are taken from Top Chef. Well that is my opinion and I am sticking to it.
Project Runway Season 7 will see the crew returning to New York. This will premiere on September 13, Mondays at 8.30pm. Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Michael Kors and Neeeeeeeennna Garcia are all returning. This will have to help us get over that there won’t be an Australian version of the show this year.
Models of the Runway, will again follow it on September 13, Mondays at 9.30pm. This is a companion series to Project Runway, which follows the models on the show. I hope they continue to keep it to a half hour show, as this got a bit tedious once all the nuttier models were eliminated last season.
And also one of my favourite reality shows Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew Pinsky returns for it third season on September 16 at 9.30pm. This is not the Rachael Uchitel one which is currently filming but the series has celebrities Dennis Rodman, Heidi Fleiss, Joey Kovar, Kari Anne Peniche, Lisa D’Amato, Mackenzie Phillips, Mike Starr, Mindy McCready and Tom Sizemore going through an intensive 21-day detox and treatment program.
All-new to Arena is Launch My Line where celebrities will design, cut and stitch their way through a one-of-a-kind creative competition to determine who has the vision to go from icon to fashion star and launch a trendsetting clothing label.
Premiering September 8, Wednesdays at 8.30pm, the celebrity contestants will each be paired with a fashion expert, who will supply the technical know-how to implement the celebrity’s creative vision.
Most of the time I am a bit dubious of reality shows with celebrities in them, Celeb Rehab being the exception, but this is from the Bravo stable which I do worship at the altar of. So will give it a look even though the premise looks a bit spurious.
Another Bravo show that Arena premiering on September 14, Tuesdays at 9.30pm, is 9 By Design. The series follows husband and wife design team, Bob and Cortney Novogratz and their seven children. Owners of New York based design firm, Sixx Design, this young, hip and artsy couple have developed and designed unique properties in Manhattan, rebuilt entire blocks in the city, and turned funky into fabulous with taste and confidence.
I hope this is more Top Design, than Kate and Jon Plus 8.
