Golden Globes Dresses From Project Runway Alumni
Project Runway winner Christian Siriano designed this gown for Mad Men star Christina Hendricks. All I can say is the Hollywood tape must be working overtime, however it is great to see a real woman on the red carpet.
Chris March designed Meryl Streep’s who won a golden globe dress. Hopefully this mean she is a Project Runway fan which would be pretty cool. If I can find a full length shot I will change the photo. Speaking of Project Runway the US edition will finally be screened here in March. However I need to clarify whether it is the series set in LA which was screened in the US at the end of last year, or the new one that started screening in the US this week. Also for Project Runway Australia fans, they will be replaying the whole of Season 2 on Australia Day, if you have not seen it this show it is as good if not better then its US counterpart. Arena TV will be sticking with it as they have announced a third season will be filmed this year.

Project Runway – Season Two – Finale
The best person won Season 2 of Project Runway Australia. Anthony’s collection was amazing, unfortunately the detail and the impact it had on the audience at the finale did not come across on the TV screen. It was haunting, and created many emotions, both positive and negative, as it was paraded on the catwalk. I am still not sure how I feel about the blue rose covering the woman’s mouth.
William’s was the other standout collection of the night, with those beautiful colours and prints, and he had some amazing pieces. As we all know his father died a few weeks prior to the finale, and I wonder how much of an impact that had on his collection, as it would have been hard to remain focused.
Lauren’s collection actually came across better on TV, as close up it looked like there were some bad finishes on it. But tonight’s episode explained that as it appears she made some new pieces. Thank christ she killed of the orange animal hide dress – who would look good in that fabric and/or that colour?
Speaking of orange, what was Kristy Hinze’s orange J’Aton dress with the Sonya McMahon split up side like? I thought had a touch of the drag queen’s about it. If there is a Season 3 I would advise her to change her stylist as the gold sequin number she wore the next day to announce the winner was not great either.
Anthony also took out the Rosemount Wine label party dress challenge with his coral silk party dress. It was stunning and original. I thought at one stage Lauren’s white micro mini, which one of the judges Gail Elliott said it was the most wearable. Yes Gail if you are a former model like you.
It has not been announced whether there is going to be a season three of this very entertaining and high quality reality TV show, as apparently the ratings had dropped from last year. If they don’t renew it I hope Foxtel find another show for Henry Roth to star in as he is a great presence on the screen.

Project Runway Australia – Final Three Revealed
We finally have our final three on Project Runway Australia Season 2. Anthony, William and Lauren, with poor Ivana eliminated after making an astonishing comeback after being eliminated in episode two.
The challenge in this episode was to create a showstopping dress to complete J’Aton couture collection. They have 20 hours for the challenge, and $500 to spend at Rathdowne fabrics.
The designers of J’Aton,Jacob Luppino and Anthony Pittorino, who popped up a few times in the episode are known for their dressing of brides, WAG’S, and other red carpet events. Some of the designs are stunning, but a few particularly the one with the slit up to the hip in my mine are just to0 impractical, and dare I say it a bit drag queenish, and who except model’s have the legs to carry that look off?
But they must be popular as the designers are off to New York.
Anyway back to the designers but first special mention must to go to Ivana’s gorgeous cape she was wearing on the first day of the challenge. She decided to take a risk making a corset for the first time ever, which if this was Yes Minister episode Sir Humphrey would have said “that is a very bold move, Minister.”
William was focused from the outset and he had decided to go for colour, which he thought may make him stand out from others who were using mainly black and grays.
“You two are freaking me out” said William about Anthony and Lauren who kept on changing their mind about what they were making.
With Lauren settling on what I would call a reverse black meringue with black tulle up around the shoulders. Her dress ended up winning the best of the night, which I thought was a bit unfair, as I thought Anthony’s was stunning. But I think Lauren’s was more J’Aton. Whereas Anthony continued to do micro minis along with some amazingly sewn jacket and shirts. I don’t think Anthony plans to design for anyone over 25.
William was extremely lucky he had a very strong body of work prior to this episode, because his pus coloured, stretch satin dress, was bad, in fact it looked like Michael ‘Tresemme’ Finch had somehow entered William’s body and taken over the designing part of his brain. The design was bridalish, and then he used the trademark J’Aton split up to the hip.
The judges both gushed over the intricate design, however did not like the colour nor the fabric. Sarah had a bit of a go about the line of the dress.
Ivana’s design I thought was fabulous. It was a skirt and cape (I think I am in the middle of a cape fetish), however her sewing skills let her down, and she was slapped around for this. In the end it was her and William standing their on the runway wondering which one the axe would fall upon. And it was Ivana whose time it was to leave.
In one way I would have liked Ivana to be in the top three ahead of Lauren, as I think she has a stronger vision, however Lauren may surprise us. I doubt she will take out the title, she is to William and Anthony, what Petrova was to Leigh Buchanan, and Juli Gbrac last year.

Project Runway Australia – The Summer Collection
It is down to the top five which were the collections we saw at the Project Runway Finale last week, and seriously some of the clothes that were designed on this episode were pretty below par not just in design but in execution. It is a wonder Sarah “she with the eagle eye” Gale wasn’t frothing at the mouth.
The challenge was that each designer must create a three piece ready-to-wear outfits for summer 2010, it must include a pant, blouse and jacket. The outfits must be finished within 12 hours. Lauren burst into tears at the time frame, but then pulled herself together.
To be honest I don’t think it would have killed the challenge sadists to have given the designers an extra day. It would have made some much better collections, especially at a time where you want to see the best designers make top 3.
To help them with their tough assignment they had the assistance of three Whitehouse design students (future Project Runway contestants perhaps?)
They had to pick them from a group of them Mark was very strategic and ran around asking for second years, but bad news for him they were all first years so he then changed tact and asked whether they could bice bind.
Lauren grabbed people who could sew. A good strategy.
Ivana picked people that were friends, as she did not want any friction.
Anthony just asked existential questions to his students so was obviously was going on vibe, and William picked his on instinct.
After picking their model’s they then had to pick models from the students, they could also include ones that were going to assist them.
Anthony in a bold move picked a male model, even though all the clothes had to be for females. I think he had a crush on his student, as he was a little bit like a mini Anthony.
The next twist in what must have been a tortuous challenge was to send one of their design student’s to Rathdowne Fabrics. William just about wept. And it got worse as nothing in his lot of fabrics were not remotely cohesive, even though he swears he gave explicit instructions.
Mark was happy with his material. Anthony was mixed as he was landed with black corduroy for a summer outfit, but he did get some fabulous coral and gold lame which he mainly used.
Mark being a teacher must have an advantage in this challenge as he is used to working with students. Something he acknowledged.
Ivana was criticised by the other contestants for getting her student’s to sew for her. But what else are you meant to get the student’s to do? Hold your pins?
Lauren’s designs were praised by mentor Henry Roth, but her students did not turn up in the morning to help to finish the task. Typical.
It was runway time.
Special guest judge tonight was designer Aurelio Costarella.
Ivana beige collection was described as “Very basic,” by Jayson Brundson. Sarah Gale said ” A few issues with finishes,” and ”Ivana’s very flat,”. Jayson also said “Lazy no design in it”. It was a bit high street, think Witchery crossed with FCUK.
Anthony coral and gold lame collection was a risk but it was fantastic and so original. The judges said”Expresses your personality, and commercial viable,” and ”Really risky.. but he so pulled it off.”. I hope Anthony is going to expand the demographic he is designing for as last night he said his designs were for 16 to 20 year olds. I would not have thought they would have a lot of money to spend on designer clothes.
Mark’s was dreadful with no originality or style. “Don’t get the cohesion.. a bit lost on a couple of pieces,” said Sarah Gale. His pants copped a bollocking as were told they were ”unacceptable”. Sarah said ” I don’t understand where his head was.”
William’s collection was the worst design we had seen on the series, extremely poorly made and nothing fabulous about the pieces in fact the red shorts were diabolical. Aurelio said ”On Second look [the shorts] a bit of a clunker”. They did not cop the excuse that he only had limited fabric to work with, which I thought was a bit unfair.
“I don’t think he had a clear vision,” said Sarah Gale, probably not realising William had been a designer on the verge of a nervous breakdown for most of this challenge.
Lauren did a really tight cohesive collection and was starting worry the more highlighted contestants. “Interesting pieces,” said Sarah Gale. “Better pair of pants,” said Aurelio Costarello, and ”Gelled as a collection,” said Jayson.
It was not surprise the winner was Anthony and Mark was eliminated.

Project Runway Australia – The Fruit and Vege Challenge
“Got to blow something, I have been locked up in the house for a month” William Zabootin said. No Project Runway Australia had not turned into some SBS late night movie, but just an indication that getting near the pointy end of the competition the contestants were starting to go stir crazy.
Fortunately they are out of the house now, but the show’s craziness finally ended for them on Tuesday night at the Project Runway Australia finale. I and my co-hort in reality TV crime Injerawas lucky enough to be guests of Foxtel and Fremantle to watch the top five send their designs down the runway. For those who don’t know the top five designers in both the US and Australian series put on a runway show so that no one will know who is in the top three.
We are all sworn to secrecy about what was in the collections if not they will probably come into my blog and hack it if I divulged any information. Needless to say there were some stunning outfits.
Also at the after party I went up to Amber Renae to sort out a misunderstanding via twitter where she thought I “did not like” her. She felt the the first blog post I wrote that it said I hated her. I pointed out au contraire she was the first contestant I mentioned and I was priming her up for a starring role on my blog posts over the following weeks, however she turned into a bit player, and other “characters” like Yopie, Michael, William and Kelly Anne were getting the most face to camera time. She said her family and friends were also surprised about this as well.
I looked at my post I had written in back in episode one – and to be honest I think what I wrote was accurate.
Amber Renae photo with Paris Hilton at the beginning of the episode is indicative of the reason she went on Project Runway Australia. Meeting her last week she admitted she was not interested in becoming a designer but was extremely open to any ongoing media opportunities.
She is a stylist so maybe she is hoping Arena will do an Australian version on The Rachel Zoe Project for her to star in.
I think she does have the goods to host a show, and think if Foxtel ever produce a version of Shear Genius they should at least audition her for the role of host.
Anyway enough of that frivolity back to the latest episode and William’s frustrations.
Living without loving was not the only thing doing William’s head in, this week they had merged living quarters and he was not coping with living with the women. “They are a little messy and a little needy,” he said and Allan Pease would have had a field day with his body language, arms crossed and back turned.
Other contestants moods were dour when Yopie picked Lauren’s model for this weeks challenge, with the knock on effect of Lauren taking Mark’s. Mark was not happy with his model as he was last to pick.
The next day at 4.50am Henry Roth woke them all up with a kiss and told them they had 30 minutes to get ready. There must be a few showers in the apartment, and they were then taken to Queen Victoria Markets.
“I am a fashion designer and I am not here to sell fruit” said William. And once it was known the materials for the next challenge were around them they all looked shocked, and afraid, very afraid…
The challenge was to create an outfit with the food and the packages they come in. They will only have 10 hours to do the challenge. They got 30 minutes and $100 to purchase the ingredients. However they could use the eco calico bags for material as well.
Lauren bought onions, Anthony beetroot, William went for pulses and quail eggs. Ivana cleaned out the stall of their cabbage. At this point there was not a lot of strategy about what they were going to design.
Back at the Whitehouse institute Lauren was peeling onions with a white suit and glasses on which made her look like she was clearing up after a white powder incident, and I am not talking about a Kerry Katona related one.
Mark was gagging at William’s blowing out the egg, and we don’t need to repeat that line again as we get it William you are frustrated.
Yopie whose ultimate goal is to be a household name was battling with artichokes leaves that were very uncooperative. They were not able to be machine sewn, stapled or glued, and she had to hand sew them all on. She was having her usual time management issues. Speaking of Yopie, on Twitter last night someone said she had a helper I did not spot it, but if she had a helper at the Queen Victoria Markets I think that is fair.
Henry said to Lauren I am seeing a designer emerge with her own style.
He did not say the same to Yopie.
Mark was having a mini nervous breakdown and I would have been grabbing the xanax too, as his was hideous.
Ivana’s was stunning, using silverbeet stalks to make a bodice was inspired, and the use of cabbage leaves was fantastic.
Yopies was bad but it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Time for the judges to have their say. Jayson Brundson was not there, and he was replaced by Alex Zabotto-Bentley, and Bettina Liano.
Ivana’s was given generally positive reviews ”It looks tailored” said Bettina Liano, and ”very evolved” said Zabatto-Bentley. Sarah Gale said it “looks feminine and sexy”. Host Kristy Hinze was not enamoured by the bodice.
Mark’s was a disaster ”Don’t understand the square top” said Sarah Gale, “she looks a bit like take me to your leader.” Well Mark does like that Trekkie look.
Zabotto thought Yopie’s was ”Very josephine baker… but then I thought Pebbles and Bam Bam.”
Lauren’s 59 onion dress was seen as being something that was fashionable and very now said Liano, but Sarah Gale thought it was a safe option.
But poor William copped what I thought was some unfair criticism, as his was my second favourite, however Sarah Gale said - bottom of skirt ”bit of safe option”. I disagree I thought the detail of his outfit was amazing. The rasta hat made out of bread was original and the jewellry made out of quails eggs was stunning.
Anthony’s beetroot dress was called almost ‘couture’ by Zabatto.
Kristy came up with this illuminating comment about Mark’s ”Ugly does not sell” she said, which is interesting considering some of the over the top outfits she has worn this season.
Ivana won which was the right decision. With Lauren second, Anthony third, poor William was fourth, and Yopie was eliminated. They got it right this week.

Project Runway Australia – Episode 6 – Spring Racing
“She is not receptive on taking my design aesthetic” squealed Jason bitching about Yopie not letting him have more input into the design of an outfit.
Yes tonight’s episode was where all the eliminated designer’s on Project Runway Australia have a chance of re-entering the competition. By the way I did not know Jason even had a design aesthetic.
The challenge was to make a spring racing outfit. The caveat was it had to be three pieces including a hat. They had 10 hours to complete it, however they were in teams of two – one eliminated designer with a designer who was still alive in the competition. The eliminated designer on the winning team would get to re-enter the competition.
The question was how much of a collaborative process was it meant to be. This was like last year when Helen Manuall had to put Petrova back in her box, as she had already been eliminated. Yes it would be nice to bring your partner back in the competition, but the first priority has to be a designer to keep themselves in the competition. And who wants to be eliminated for taking the advice and ideas of someone who is already out.
And that appeared to be the philosophy most of the designers appeared to take.
William ‘fessed up to mentor Henry Roth that Claudia had only designed 10 percent of his outfit. Henry thought this could be a problem in the long term at judging. However the judges did not appear to care about that.
Claudia hit the jackpot getting William who is always a contender. He treated her as a seamstress, which I don’t think there is anything wrong with that, but she sewed through her finger and had to go to hospital. The other contestants were in awe at her not screaming or crying, but she has been through childbirth so she probably has a high tolerance level to pain.
They made this beautiful yellow dress matched with a black summer jacket. Henry Roth could not say one bad thing about it. Jayson Brundson said “I loved it modern, sculptured, and structured.”
Ivana and Anthony’s did appear to be the most collaborative process from what we were shown, though Amber-Renae and Lauren also appeared to work well together. The rest of the teams were a bit of a basket case. Henry was a bit unsure about whether the gold lame was appropriate for spring racing.
However the judges gushed over it. “My fair lady meets ’80′s disco” said Kristy Hinze.
Jayson Brundson also said ”Quite fantastic.” and “lady like classical look from the front and then she turns sideways and boom.”
Sarah Gale who I love said ” they had taken a lot of risks”
Kelly-Anne who was paired with Mark was a bit passive-aggressive, particularly after he disregarded all her “expertise”. She then spent the the ten hours making the hat. To be fair it was a pretty impressive hat. Something guest judge Leona Edmiston acknowledged.
I quite like his dress I thought it classic with a few twists. Jayson Brundson was of a differing view and told Mark be careful about being to sweet and sentimental. Leona loved the detailing and loved the pink and navy.’
Yopie and Jason were having difficulties with the sexy french maid outfit. I cannot believe Jason was offered a job with Dior. OK I have not seen much of him but what I have seen has been pretty dreadful. Also he can barely sew he stuffed up the bodice. I also think Yopie is starting to get out of her league in this competition.
Jayson Brundson said he had seen it before. However Leona said she did like the cape.
Another difficult partnership was Michael and Ryan. Michel was not listening to any of Ryan’s ideas who was concerned that he was making his standard design of bodice with a skirt again in the competition. I call it his ’70′s Harold Robbins look. However Ryan is a bit of a douche and he was responsible the material for the hat and he brought back all these yellow feathers.
Michael said “He’s bought back big bird.” Michael delegated the making of the hat and jacket to Ryan which Michael ended up hating.
Sarah Gale got tough and said “The jacket the construction is not there”. Michael immediately threw Ryan under a bus. Then Sarah called Michael on the fact the lining of his dress was longer then the outside material. He did have the grace to look a little shame faced about that.
“Looked like one of those girls and you thought bogan” said Jayson Brundson. Sarah Gale also confirmed my view when she said ”It was old, tired and outdated.”
Lauren and Amber-Renae were a harmonious pairing. Because of their lack of screen time I had no idea who did what. Amber-Renae said she had won fashion in the field four times, so she was feeling confident. I did not understand if she personally had won it or had styled people that had won it. Their outfit was quite nice.
The hat was an issue for me and Kristy agreed, she said it looked like a broken record. She also said “the hat looks cheap to me,”.Does anyone else thing that Kristy has become a bit more snarky this year? I think her first season nerves are over. Sarah Gale however could see the hat standing out in the crowd.
Anthony and Ivana won with their innovative design which means Ivana is back in the competition.
Michael was out. I think more for the fact he was a one trick pony, as I thought Yopie’s outfit was probably the worst.

Project Runway Australia – Will Ivana Stipicic Be The One To Return?
Tonight’s episode of Project Runway Australia gives the opportunity for one of the eliminated contestants to return to the competition. Now who will it be?
In my opinion one of the talented designers who was flicked to early was Ivana Stipicic and I have found this article in my local paper about what she hopes to achieve from appearing on the reality TV show.
Here is what the article from the Inner West Courier said:
Ivana Stipicic worked and lived in Italy for eight years, establishing her career and feeling out her own style.
“I moved back to Sydney three years ago,” she said. “I wanted to start my own label but overseas there is so much competition it was almost impossible.
“Everyone oveseas is a fashion student, especially in Milan.”
She said it had been a lot harder to establish herself in Australia than she had hoped, having to start from scratch in a new country with few industry contacts.
Stipicic said her appearances on Project Runway Australia had helped get her name out there and taught her to take criticism and mangage her time better.
Before the show, I would never have thought I could push myself to that extent and finish a garment in that time,” she said.
“The pressure is full on. It was very hard as there are so many talented people on the show this year that have been working in the industry for so many years.”
She said standing in front of the judges on the show, including Kristy Hinze and Henry Roth, was the most nerve-racking experience of her life.
“Sometimes they are quite harsh and some times it comes across like they are criticising you instead of your work,” she said.
“But the industry itself is really hard. You have to think about the bigger picture.
“There are always people that are going to love it and people that are going to hate it.”
She described her style as rock chic with lots of black and European inspiration and plans to use the show as a springboard for her own label.
Good luck Ivana, I would love to see more of what she can do.

Project Runway Australia – Episode 5 – The Men’s Marathon
Apparently the housemates particularly the boys are underwhelmed by Kelly-Anne and thought she should have been eliminated last week. Michael aka Tresemme continued with his bitchy queen persona and said “She has dodged so many bullets …she’s a big target”. Ouch.
Tonight’s challenge was to convince a complete stranger to become their client, then create a modern cutting-edge outfit with a minimum of three pieces for a complete stranger. The clanger was the client had to be male, they had to find him, and he would have to model it on the runway.
They have two days for the challenge.
Yopie and Anthony were the first to find some male models and get to Rathdowne Fabrics, whilst Kelly-Anne wandered aimlessly around.
“Normally it takes a few drinks to get rejected this many times.” said Kelly-Anne. And I am not surprised if her pick up lines are as crap as the lines she was using tonight to try and cajole a guy to model for her. “Do you want a make-over?” she was screeching which implies they currently look crap. She needed to sell it a bit better like “Do you want a new funky wardrobe?”
At 5.20pm Kelly-Anne still was not back at the Whitehouse. By the time she got there she was completely psyched out, and had “no fucking idea” what she was going to do. But the next day she pulled it together a bit better. However the jacket she made her client looked like something an eskimo would wear.
Michael’s outfit morphed from Peter Allen Cococobana, to gay rodeo.
Anthony who was having difficulty in selling the MC Hammer pants to his client, should have told him it makes it penis look bigger (which by the way it did), then he may have agreed too wear them.
Mark’s was like Star Trek top covered by a black shiny billowing jacket, which Sarah Gale described as something you would wear at the hairdressers.
Yopie was struggling, by the end of the second day and had yet to make a third piece. Kelly-Ann wrote a list of all the things she had to do to finish, and William gave her a hand as well by sewing a few things for her.
In was Runway time:
Lauren’s trench was praised, but the shorts and t-shirt were given the thumbs down.
They all liked William’s ”modern and sophisticated” outfit.
Yopie’s coat was badly made but Jayson Brundson thought it was quite modern.
Anthony’s “not a commerical pants” copped a bollocking from Sarah Gale.
Alex Zabotto-Bentley, who was the guest judge tonight, told Kelly-Ann the jacket was too feminine.
The judges liked the Jim Morrison look of Michael’s, who had designed for a boy that was in a indie band.
It was obvious William was going to win tonight as his outfit was by far and away the best.
Kelly-Anne has been bottom feeding for awhile, so it was no surprise she was eliminated. Mark would have gotten a scare by being in the bottom two where he was told his outfit was “safe and boring”.
Next week is the wildcard round with the chance for two designers to reenter the competition. Fun, fun, fun.

Project Runway Australia – So Ryan Didn’t Like Amber-Renae?
Who Mag has an elimination interview with Ryan who was eliminated from Project Runway Australia with Amber-Renae this week.
He had these things to say:
He did not like fellow evictee Amber-Renae:
You’ve got other people like Amber, who got voted off the same time as I did and we were kind of mortal enemies in the house, we didn’t really have too much left over for each other. There’s absolutely nothing that stops her [Amber] talking about herself, this never-ending publicity machine about how fabulous she is in every possible way. You can just imagine living with someone that doesn’t turn off, I got into the habit of just referring to her as “The Queen of hot-air and no substance.” All pretty packaging – no good products.
On Michael aka Tresemme apparently he has got his reality TV persona honed:
Then you’ve got Michael – he’s actually a really lovely guy when you get to sit down and talk to him but then a camera turns up and he turns into the hair-flicking monster that you see on TV.
On William apparently he is a little dull:
You have somebody like William where basically his personality is like a short-circuit loop where he’s got a certain amount of jokes, a certain amount of stories and smart comments which is really funny and amazingly new when you start but when you’re locked up in there for long enough you hear the same shit again. It’s just telling the same stories to the same audience.
Who he wants to win:
From a design perspective, I think Anthony would be amazing because he lives in his own little wonderful world where most designers actually have to challenge themselves to get beyond the connection. He’s just marvellous, fabulous.
He also said that talking to Henry Roth took 45 minutes this challenge – which is amazing they must edit a lot out, as it is about a minute on TV. It is a fair chunk of time out of a 8 hour challenge.
If you want to see the episode online go here.
