OK so it is very predictable when fashion week is on to get stories about how thin some of the models are and this time it is about Australia’s Next Top Model favourite Cassi Van Den Dungen on the receiving end of these rumours.
The Daily Telegraph states that Jackie Frank the Editor of Marie Claire was so shocked that she rang her agent, who said she was fine.
But I think those arms show the full story.

You get the feeling if Cassi Van Den Dungen had her time again she would not go on Australia’s Next Top Model. Cassi was the controversial runner up to Tahnee Atkinson. Firstly for being seen to be aggressive towards other contestants and living with her boyfriend at the age of 16 and also only coming runner-up when most people thought she should have won.
This has been proven with Cassi’s career taking off with her recently walking exclusively for Calvin Klein at New York fashion week. This all occurring after having a baby.
Frockwriter has a great interview with Cassi where she talks about feelings about reality TV. Below is just an excerpt on the reality related content but if you want to know about her personal life and her career read the full interview here.
The article states:
BACK ON AUSTRALIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL FOR A MOMENT AND, AT THE END OF THE DAY, ALL THOSE REALITY SHOWS, IT SEEMS THE PRODUCERS REALLY LOVE TO EXPLOIT THE TALENTS’ EXPLOITS [VAN DEN DUNGEN, WHO WAS DESCRIBED AT THE TIME AS A ‘FIRECRACKER’ AFTER SEVERAL OUTBURSTS, WAS ORDERED BY THE SHOW’S PRODUCERS INTO ANGER MANAGEMENT COUNSELLING].
They loved to pick on me.
DID YOU SEE THE CURRENT AUSNTM SERIES, IN WHICH TAYLAH ROBERTS WAS DISQUALIFIED FROM THE COMPETITION AFTER ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING ASHLEY POGMORE?
I don’t actually watch it but I did hear about that. And at least I wasn’t that bad!
BUT OF COURSE, REALITY SHOW PRODUCERS LOVE THAT SORT OF THING BECAUSE IT’S ADDITIONAL DRAMA. AND THEY SLIP THE FOOTAGE OF THE ROBERTS/POGMORE INCIDENT TO A CURRENT AFFAIR FOR MAXIMUM PUBLICITY IMPACT [FOXTEL HAS A COMMERCIAL PARTNERSHIP WITH ACA BROADCASTER, NINE NETWORK AUSTRALIA]. SO YOU FELT THEY PICKED ON YOU?
There were times when even the other girls in the show turned around, with challenges and stuff and said, ‘The producers shouldn’t have done that to you’. That’s why when we went to London during the show, the producers let Adele win the challenge. I can’t remember what it was. Adele turned around and said it should have been me. The prize was to go to the Fast and Furious 4 premiere in London and so she took me, because she said that it should have been my prize, not hers. The producers just liked to do anything that would tick me off.
AND GET A REACTION FROM YOU?
Yes. That’s what they do to create drama. It’s a reality tv show but I hate to say it, reality tv shows are not all reality.
DO YOU THINK MODELLING REALITY SHOWS SUCH AS AUSNTM ARE A GOOD ENTREE TO THE INDUSTRY?
After my experience and learning that reality tv shows are not exactly reality, that a lot of it is all set up then no, it’s probably not the best thing. I’d say for a model who has never done anything before and wants to start up, best to find a really good agency that they feel comfortable with and are happy with and to make sure that they know that they’re the ones who are in charge. So your agent is not your boss. You’re your agent’s boss. I don’t do underwear or bikini shoots. My agents understand that, they know I don’t feel comfortable with that, that’s not a problem. But if you’re 16 and your agent says ‘Oh you have to do it’, you argue that point if you don’t feel comfortable. You have to be strong enough to say ‘No, I don’t’ feel comfortable being 16 and doing an underwear shoot’.
It would be interesting to know if her profile would be as high without the show.

It is Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and this year there are not as many reality TV types around but on Day One I managed to catch up with Johnny Schembri who won Project Runway Australia. His runway show was packed last night and if you are interested in buying his stuff go to The Iconic as it is on sale now. He talks to me about what is happening for him fashion wise.
Terry Biviano who was one of the highlights on WAG Nation last year talked about how being on the show gave her business a boost and what it was like having the cameras on her. It does not look like we will be seeing her in The Real Housewives of Australia.
Also I popped into the Alex Perry show and you have to wonder how he fits everything in. He is the ultimate energiser bunny. The show had a naughty, elegant school girl vibe about it. However Sarah Murdoch was there wearing an Alex Perry number and supporting his show as was his Project Runway colleague Megan Gale.
Former Australia’s Next Top Model Cassi Van Den Dungen walked in his show as did Amanda Ware. At this stage I have not spotted Montana Cox as there are rumours that she has put on weight, whatever that means in the fashion world.
Alice Burdeau is also there here is a shot of her at the Aurelio Costarella showcase.

Cassi Van Den Dungen has given an exclusive article to the Australian Woman’s Weekly (out Wednesday) about motherhood.
The Herald Sun (pay wall) reports that her baby Drake was born with a cleft lip and palate. He will need surgery to fix it. She also told the magazine it had also been a tough six months for her and her fiance Brad who is nearly ten years older then her.
Cassi was not paid for the interview as she just wanted to highlight the issue of cleft palate something that effect one in 700 children.
