Dance Your Ass Off has been cancelled after only one episode, because of poor ratings. It attracted below 800,000 viewers on the Tuesday night. So Channel 9 have reacted swiftly and canned it.
Frankly I was so pissed off I rang them to tell them so. I thought the show was much better than expected, and I think a few other viewers thought that as well.
I would have liked to have seen if the ratings would have improved after a few weeks.
Nine’s rationale for taking it off air was it pulled the ratings down for the whole of the night. They did say that Nine’s second channel will be more reality TV focused. Survivor will be scheduled on it, as well as bringing back Dance Your Ass Off.
For those who are now going to miss Trice’s Disco diva moods here they are. And for those So You Think You Can Dance fanatics, she is partnered by season 3 contestant Jesus Solario.

This is not the news Channel 9 executives wanted to hear this morning – that their new reality TV show Dance Your Arse Off, did not go as well as they thought.
Crikey writes viewers rejected Dance Your Ass Off as it averaged 797,000 for the 90 minutes last night … a distant third. It helped Nine run third nationally and fourth in Adelaide and Perth behind the ABC.
Personally I think they should let it run for a few weeks before putting it into a later time slot, as the Twitter chatter would indicate the concept of the show wasn’t as grotesque as would be believed.
I surprisingly quite enjoyed it see post Dance Your Arse Off – More Like Laugh Your Tits Off as the dancers were good, with engaging personalities and the host and judges managed to appear genuine.
Well if Nine does decide to pull it can they replace it with another reality TV show in their stable – Survivor?

Dance Your Arse Off premiered tonight on Channel 9 and it is was much better than I expected. Now I don’t know if my brain has completely rotted due to a steady diet of reality TV, however I thought the cast and contestants had potential.
The host Marissa Jaret Winokur has warmth and enthusiasm. She is not slim herself but she still looks great. I am sure the former The Biggest Loser host Ajay Rochester would love a role like hers, now she is looking for work in LA.
The judges who looked plastic also were natural, semi-articulate, and genuine.
Why is the show watchable? Well there is the human side of the stories of these overweight people and how they are desperate to lose it. They appeared to have picked a good mix of contestants. What is it with black women and rhythm they were far superior to those white girls shaking their booty on the dance floor. And there was some amazing flexibility shown.
The other side is the humour of seeing these obese people dance in tight lycra outfits, but because they seemed to be really enjoying it, I did not feel I was laughing at them. In fact there were more good routines than bad. Pinky, Shayla, Mara and Trice were fabulous. In fact I thought the most boring routine of the night was Angela’s for two reasons – she had no rhythm and she was not fat enough.
I thought I was only going to watch it once but I may go back for another viewing next week. It will be interesting to see if the MasterChef Australia Twitterati become compulsive tweeters when this show is on.
Here is a clip of one of the best routines of the night – Shayla dancing to Proud Mary.

Ok so I have had a few wines, but this little exerpt from one of the episode of Dance Your Arse Off had me laughing. Trice who dances in the clip above is apparently the star of the show. I am still not sure whehter I could sit through an hour episode.
Dance Your Arse Off is coming to Channel 9 soon. Supposedly as is Superstars of Dance, and Survivor Gabon.

No news on when Channel Nine will show a season of Survivor, but they are quite prepared to show their new reality TV show they have bought called Dance Your Ass Off.
The show is about 12 fatties dancing to lose weight. Each contestant is paired with a professional dance partner who will train him or her for weekly stage performances – ranging from Hip Hop, to Ballroom and even Pole Dancing! Then they shake and rattle their rolls in front of a live studio audience and a panel of expert judges. The judges score the routines, and then the contestants weigh in to reveal their weekly weight loss. The dance score and the weight loss are combined for an overall score, which determines who is sent home each week.
I am excited. NOT. I don’t even think it will be in the ‘it is so bad it is good category’ of TV shows.
Injera has done some research and found this article on Jezebel which shows that Channel Nine might yet again have a mega dud on its hands. It also has a routine from the first episode on it if you cannot wait to see what it is all about. Or watch the trailer below.
