MasterChef Australia – Sunday Paper’s Wrap Up

masterchef_front-300x368

The Sunday papers are in a MasterChef Australia final frenzy, and this is not a surprise due the expectation that over three million people will be watching the show tonight. Everyone wants a piece of the action.

Here is what they are saying:

The Sun Herald in one article says they may go to a live finale next year so the problem of the winner leaking out does not occur again. That is one idea but it may be a bit overwhelming for the contestants who have to fight it out in the final challenges. Why don’t they just film it on the day or the day before so it gives them time for editing, this would minimise the chance of leaks and rumours, nor slip ups from the other contestants.

Also it would give the final two ‘chef’s a couple of weeks to hone their skills.

The article also states that Poh was upset that everyone was having a go about her getting a second chance in the audition phase. Apparently quite a few people did but it just was not shown on TV.

Also the Sun-Herald has an article where the judges are critiqued. Gary Mehigan’s restaurant The Boathouse did not get a great review, but George Calombaris’s Hellenic  Republic did.

The Sunday Telegraph has an article about why the show is so successful. Apparently because it is not nasty like some other reality TV shows. However they were suprised by the ratings.

Also here is some video interviews with the two finalists. Julie says she was a bit non-plussed that Chris called her the weakest link in the competition.

The truth hurts, huh Julie!

Not surprised that George received a good review and Gary didn’t. I’d actually like to see Gary leave the show and a female chef step into his place. I know lots of people prefer Gary to George, but I love George’s enthused about food little boy attitude. Gary strikes me a bit arrogant and smirky, especially when he gets to rate the guest chef’s dishes (like Guy Grossi).

But Matt Cravatt rules over all!

“Win or lose, both finalists – and the entire top 10 – are set for careers in the food industry, with offers flooding in from top restaurants around Australia and some overseas.”
Umm…does this include ‘Sandwich Artist’ Sam?

I’d like to see Manu Feidl on board but I can’t say this is purely a culinary based request.

Poor Julie is really copping it. Everyone has cocked up along the way. Masterchef? No but with what’s left, I prefer her to win because, while I keep harping on the point, Poh shouldn’t have even made it past audition stage given her first offering.

I agree
As to the papers reviews, what a load of c@#p. Just talking up the last episode to try to boost the ratings. No bitchiness indeed. Just slightly adequate editing I’d say

It will be a farce if Julie wins. But given all of the favouritism free passes, and pimping Julie has received so far, I have no doubt in my mind that she will win. The show lost all credibility ages ago anyway.

Meh.

Certainly agree on the credibility aspect. But dont u think Poh received just a few pieces of Geo inspired favoritism and get out of jail free cards also?
I was barracking for Julie, but if she wins it will be somewhat Pyrrhic as Chris got the boot not on a cooking basis.

Great the Psychology of newspapers in SPINNING who they want to be popular.
Just look at the picture above. If you’d just flown back from another planet and had not heard all the brouhaha going on, and you then looked at the photo, who would you go for in a popularity contest? The one with the big smile, or the one looking down and out?
This is the oldest trick in the book and sadly it seems to govern on both sides and as the whim takes the media, who gets to govern the country

sourkraut, in my opinion, Julie has had more free passes than Poh, for really crap cooking. Just the amount that Julie has received this week alone, has blown my mind.
