Don’t Stop Believing – A New Show For Channel Ten

Without So You Think You Dance Australia and Australian Idol, Channel Ten desperately needed a new show to fill their coffers.

And they now have one. It is called Don’t Stop Believing an entertainment show combining singing and dancing in a format never before seen on Australian television.

It will premiere in 2011 and at this stage there is no news on the host, judges etc.

The press blurb says:

Don’t Stop Believing will scour Australia for existing and first time musical groups created by friends, colleagues, school mates or families performing some of the greatest songs ever in spectacular never-before- heard arrangements.

Performers of all ages are welcome to take part in groups of up to 24 people who will compete in weekly heats that will showcase Australia’s extraordinary depth of music and dance talent. From Lady GaGa to Madonna…from The Beatles to the Black Eyed Peas, High School Musical and Hairspray. Don’t Stop Believing will be inspired by the music and the most memorable performances from stage, screen and pop music history. Each heat will produce a winning group that will progress to the finals and ultimately battle it out to be crowned the series champions.

The jewel in the Don’t Stop Believing crown will be the resident “Don’t Stop Believing Super Group” made up of 12 of Australia’s hottest young professional singers and dancers who will lead the show each week with performances that will inspire and amaze audiences at home.

This Super Group will be like nothing we have ever seen before on Australian television and a pre show launch will secure them as household names even before the first performance show airs.

David Mott, Chief Programming Officer said: “Don’t Stop Believing is a joyous format and a perfect fit for the big entertainment, feel good direction TEN has been heading for the last few years.”

I have to confess I am a bit confused on how the format is going to work, but will definitely check it out. Shine will be producing it.

However you can register for auditions Registration for national auditions start now. Groups looking to compete are encouraged to go

I can’t believe they axed SYTYCD for this insipid talent time show.

They didn’t even give SYTYCD a chance, ugh.

That sounds like so much fun! Sounds like a televised version of what would happen if karaoke was brought in for the work Christmas party, particularly if the workplace was Glee-obsessed.

“Don’t stop ’til you’ve had enough”?

The terms used in their media statement are revealing and create an impression that even the network aren’t certain this program is a good concept. “Scour” – isn’t this the process you use to remove unwanted residues? AND…”will be like nothing we have ever seen before on Australian television” – which means it could simply be uniquely bad. Can’t wait to see groups comprising Hillsong Happy Clappers, lesbian barber shop quartets and guitar strumming polynesian boys who weren’t good enough on the league field to score an NRL contract. Am so waiting for this show.

I was trying to think what it sounded like and you summed it up – Its a reality version of Glee.

Surely this is a nod to Glee?

It’s like a mix of X Factor, Australia’s Got Talent & High School Musical I guess.

I”m not sure it’s a format that can last, they’ve taken a big risk canning SYTYCDA and Idol, it seems they’re banking a lot on the triple schedule of Masterchef Normal, Masterchef Jnr, and Celeb MasterChef – I don’t know how many cooking shows we can take in one year of programming….

INjera – Duh! Christ I didn’t even see that now that you mention it sooo obvious.

Shelsta78 – Celeb Masterchef is no more.

Culinary Boner – so glad you are looking forward to watching it.

this is a fantastic idea if it is done right. people like kelly abbey, david atkins, john frost, eddie perfect, kylie, danni, delta, caroline o’connor, lisa mccune etc, the cream of australia’s music/dancing/ performing industry would be amazing judges. let’s find the real talent in australia that can sing, act and dance. yay
