Australian Pirate Patrol – Men and Women In Uniform With Drama – Sounds Good

National Geographic Channel has launched it new show Australian Pirate Patrol last week. Some people call it observational documentary, I tend to call it high end reality TV.

As regular readers of this blog will know I don’t tend to cover observational reality shows, more due to time constraints rather than not liking this particular reality TV genre.

However after receiving a invite to the launch on a naval ship I was got very interested indeed. Hellooooooo sailor.

This show which is a produced in Australia is set on naval ship taking part in a six month tour of duty in the Middle East. Their main role is to protect the safe passage of ships from pirates that roam the waters in that area.

The show is shot in HD, and looks really sharp. It mainly follows six “characters”, Commander Ivan Ingham (who looks like a bit of hottie), Adam “Basko” Basket, Jonathan Beatty – the navigator, Leesa Young – the officer of the watch, Simon Howard who just had a baby,  and Samantha Whitfield.

However there are 193 men and women aboard the HMAS Toowoomba and the series will show how the crew adapt to the daily pressures of life on active service. We see the navy boarding ships to hinder pirates and smugglers in the area.

It is the first time a film crew has been allowed access-in-full to an Australian warship on a complete six month tour of duty.

It will be shown globally on all the National Geographic Channel’s in 166 countries and 34 languages.

Definitely worth watching Australian Pirate Patrol will premiere on Monday October 18 at 8.30pm, but will be on at other times during the week.
