Season Two of Dating In The Dark premieres tonight on Fox 8 at 9.30pm.
The premise on the show is three single ladies and three single guys move into a mansion and they date each other in a dark room so they are judging on other things rather then looks. They then get to see one person quickly in the flesh before deciding on whether to meet them on the balcony to continue their interaction outside the house.
Well kind of as they all go in for a bit of touching to ensure they like the feel of the body.
The show is at times irritating due to the vacuousness of the single people, however also entertaining as we get to be voyeurs on their dates. Also what was illuminating was that in 2012 women are still split into categories of girls you would have a “good time” with and those you would marry. On the other side of the coin I think some of the girls are a bit too fussy.
Host Laura Dundovic keeps it moving on as does the fast editing of the dates as there is not a lot of interesting conversation going on.
Tonight’s episode see Megan, Lorryndale, and Danielle meet up with Eli, Matt and Alfredo, and I must say I was surprised with the out come of the dates and who hooked up with whom. I will put up a short recap tonight as I don’t want to give out spoilers here.
One thing I would like to see is some episodes with some older people, that is over 30, to see the different dynamics that this would bring.
Also I am sure Shine who produce the show are hoping Megan lives in The Shire as she would surely be the type of character they would like on that show.
Dating In The Dark Starts On Fox 8 tonight, Tuesday 10 April at 9.30pm.

Laetita the 35 year old french girl entered the Dating In The Dark with her vibrator which would indicate she wasn’t confident that she would hook up in the house.
But maybe it was a wise move for her as the guys in the house were a bit younger then her.
However she fairly popular with 24 year old Matt, and also Carlos. Carlos liked her looks but ended up not meeting her on the verandah. However 24 year old Matt did. But I don’t see this relationship lasting. But he was hottie so she should have fun with him.
Vanessa the 22 year old had dated Matt and Sam but in the end walked away. Clearly Matt’s eyeball wasn’t very tasty when she was likcking it.That little scenario just screamed “look how out there I am”. Memo to Vanessa licking an eyeball does not make you a free spirit.
Sam and Michelle hooked up straight away and they probably have the best chance of a long term relationship. However, at one stage he thought her looks were going to be a deal breaker, but in the end he went out on the balcony. By the way I thought him re-entering one of the dates with her to give her a pash just reeked of producer interference.
I really think if they do another series they should do a gay episode I think that would be a hoot.

The first episode of the Australian Dating In The Dark proved to be entertaining, especially because there were 19 year olds moaning about their lack of relationships. What were they expecting to meet their perfect match by 20?
Anyway there was Kahli 21 who worries that people think she is a bimbo, she is a promotions model, but she does go to Uni as well.
Raelene she does marketing and is 19 and hints she cannot sustain a relationship, and Ashley who is also 19 said guys didn’t like her because she is 6 foot.
The guys were JP who considers himself as a bit of a player by announcing he has slept with 50 women. Hopefully the producers got him cleared of STD’s before he went on the show or there could be a law suit. He wants a supermodel. But I have to give it to him he did have the moves. He mentioned puppies hugging, spooning in bed watching movies and eating baked goods.
Jimmy seems like a cutie and a genuine thing, but slightly too earnest and made a strategic stuff up that cost him the girl.
Jesse was a goofy skater boy type who showed intellect wasn’t one of his qualities, as he didn’t know what an orchestra is.
First the group date where all six of them are in the dark room with each other making banal conversation.
Clearly the producers gave the girls whoopee cushions to break the ice which was a tad weird, but the guys thought it was fine. Luckily each guy picked a different girl as their favourite.
The next step was to show an item that showed something about them. Cute Jimmy made a strategic mistake and sent in a bible, which made his favourite party girl Raelene lose her ardour.
Now it was time for the one on one dates.
Jesse invited Kahli, and he reckoned he can make any topic interesting giving an example of poo on the ground. But then just sat their in silence.
Jesse’s and Ashleigh’s date went better as they found they had some things in common. By the way I thought Jesse looked a bit weird when in the dark room.
Jimmy confessed he was half a virgin to Raelene. The other girls queried whether you could be, Raelene seriously nodded and said “you can be”.
The next step was another one-on-one date, however this time it was more hands on.
Kahli gave JP a massage and said “All the tension is in your shoulders which indicates you haven’t had sex in awhile”. At this stage she was still unaware of his 50 conquests.
Ashleigh played the cello to Jesse which he thought was “f**king awesome”, she then gave him a quick tutorial.
The it was time for the all important reveal.
Kahli who moaned earlier about boys thinking she was a bimbo wore super slinky dress and did the the Pamela Anderson hair touch when the light was on her.
Jimmy thought Raelene was cute and she said he had the looks she liked but was still unsure about the religious aspect.
JP and Kahli the most superficial of the bunch started having doubts when they saw each other. However Kahli went out on the balcony and he did join her. JP thought he had grown as a person by going on the show. That would not have been hard for him.
Raelene predictably didn’t go to the balcony, another blow to Jimmy’s fragile self esteem, but he might feel better after watching the episode that it was not his looks that killed the deal.
Jesse and Ashleigh both met on the balcony and drove off into the sunset.
I would love to know if any of the couples are still together. Hopefully there will be a retrospective at the end of the series.
Oh and girls if you want to contact cute Jimmy he is on Twitter here.

Just when you thought all the reality shows were finishing for the year, one Australian series is premiering tonight (Wednesday) on Fox 8, and it is highly entertaining.
Dating In The Dark is a match making show where the contestants don’t get to see the potential perfect match until they have “dated” a few times. If I was going to go all high end on you I could call it an interesting social experiment, but thankfully there is still enough low rent aspects to the show to keep it entertaining.
The potential love matches have a few dates in the dark where they chat, drink and do something physical like massage or dancing. Then there is the big reveal where they get to see their chosen one lit up for a few seconds.
Anyone who has watched the US version of the show will know that some “true loves” are dumped once they don’t meet with their person physical ideal. Hopefully the Australian participants won’t be quite so superficial.
Thankfully the casting in episode one means most all of the contestants have something that is attractive about them, though one guy, Jesse, did look a little strange when filmed in the dark room.
The other guys were Jimmy claimed he was a half virgin (I was to afraid to google that to see what it meant), and JP was a bit of a ladies man.
The girls were 19 year old Raelene who likes a bit of a drink, Kahli a 21 year old who doesn’t like people thinking she is a bimbo, and Ashleigh whose height makes it difficult to find a guy.
At times it was cringeworthy eavesdropping on self conscious first dates of 19 year old. This was one of the down sides of this episode is the participants were very young. Hopefully each episode will have varying ages of contestants.
Laura Dundovic, for Miss Universe Australia, hosts it, and she is natural on camera and ensures the show is about the dating not about her.
Definitely entertaining and well edited reality show, and worth a look. What I would like to know is how many of the couples actually continue to date in “real life”.
Dating In The Dark premieres on Fox 8, Wednesday December 1 at 7.30pm.
And yes I will be doing recaps.

If you have ambitions to become a TV host these days a good short cut is to win Miss Universe Australia. Ever since Jennifer Hawkins won the world title, each year the Australian winner has become an instant It girl.
Laura who held the title last year has now been chosen to host Dating in The Dark, a reality show where the contestants get to know potential partners through a series of tests and challenges to find their perfect match in the dark.
Apparently the show is a ratings hit in the US and UK, each episode features three guys and three girls who will live together under one roof and only come into contact with the opposite sex through the specially created dark room, which has state-of-the-art cameras with high definition night vision technology to capture all the action.
I have to admit I am a bit suss that they won’t see or hear each other outside the specified room.
Production commences this week and Dating in the Dark will premiere exclusively on FOX8 this summer.
