Conviction Kitchen To Come To Channel 7

Channel 7 are in a cooking show frenzy at the moment. First the announcement of Iron Chef Australia, and now a new show called Conviction Kitchen.

The premise based on a UK show which follows the journey of a staff of ex-criminals as they staff an inner-city Brisbane bistro and create a top-quality menu to accompany it. All profits will go to charity, with the best two workers on staff to embark on new careers as trainees in one of host’s Ian Curley’s kitchens.

Ian Curley is chef of The European, Melbourne Supper Club and City Wine shop all in Melbourne. And yes he was on Masterchef Australia.

You just know this show is going to have you in tears by the end of the first episode.

Pretty dull concept unless they dress it up as Prisoner meets Iron Chef.

Why not use real cons instead and have them competing in Kitchen Penitentiary with constant harrassement by real-life, chip-on-the-shoulder, semi-pyschotic prison guards? Nah. On second thoughts, make that Matt Newton and Kyle Sandilands.

I thought it was a great idea. A little slow going but it is only the first episode. Loved Marijana !

I’m not a fan of reality shows but Thank you Curly for giving these guys a chance, not many people would compromise their own reputation and businesses for convicts, most of them have turned their lives around and that’s very hard. It’s so easy to relapse into the world you’re used to, whatever that may be, these guys haven’t come from privileged backgrounds or necessarily loving families.
