Charlotte Dawson and Alex Perry Sue Nine MSN And Facebook

The Daily Telegraph are saying Australia’s Next Top Model judges Charlotte Dawson and Alex Perry are suing Nine MSN and Facebook over allegations she bullied a university student during a vicious online exchange. (Previous blog post on the issue here).

The stoush cost Charlotte an $18,000 contract.

The article says:

Dawson said she initially joined the Facebook slanging match, believing it was “one of our friends joking around”.

“But as soon as we started, the responses became really full-on and the messages we were sent were so explicit,” she said.

Dawson said comments described her as a “disease-ridden prostitute” and “crack whore”.

“I was so fascinated people would write such hateful things and when I wrote back they’d say, ‘Oh, we love you, we were just having fun’.”

But the online “fun” allegedly ended in death threats to the pair, who now plan a joint action against a Ninemsn report which documented the thread.

In the piece, Dawson reportedly conceded calling the page’s creator a “westie scrag” and its members “f … ing losers”.

Ninemsn head of news Hal Crawford defended the article yesterday, stating: “Charlotte Dawson confirmed with [us] that she had made those comments.”

I think this will be an interesting court case to watch, and wonder if it will set case law in relation to social media comments.

Charlotte has had a big mouth for far too long. After her marriage to Scott Miller, she ran back to NZ as noone would hire her here. 5 years later she came back like a bad smell and is still trying to get her 15 mins!

It must of really annoyed her being passed over for jodhi meares, sarah murdoch (which she would have hated) and every other show on tv. She makes it quite clear in those facebook posts and another website which I must find a link for, that she thinks of herself as a C or D list celeb. For her to even use those words, makes her more desperate than what she really is.

And Alex Perry? Her best friend. Both of them deserve each other.

The internet is free speech. Would she sue someone who told her in the street they couldnt stand her? Ninemsn and Facebook can not control (and nor can the net in general) people’s opinions. For her to retaliate and think it was a “joke” serves her right. No sympathy for her whatsoever.

This screams of a desperate run for publicity

bella vita,
The internet is not an open forum to say whatever you want. There are limits just as there is in everyday society.

I don’t think this particular case will ever get off the ground but mark my words, sooner or later someone will go to court over what someone has said about them on the net.

If its defamatory and/or eronneous then it will be very interesting indeed.

Bella
“australia’s next top westie scrag” is a humourous blog post recap title. Google it. I expect Charlotte was referring to that.

Charlotte Dawson is one of the reasons I watch AustNTM. You need to be dull and married to an Aus media mogul at some point in your life to host it.
