Clearly Today FM did not get the memo that Mel B was not that popular in Australia as they have appointed her as part of their new breakfast line up. Mel B was announced in the new line up with Sophie Monk as well as Jules Lund and Merrick Watts.
They will replace the popular Kyle and Jackie O show.
Mel B who can currently be seen on America’s Got Talent on Fox 8 on Saturday nights sees Australia as a way of boosting her income be it on our TV shows or making appearances at the races.
She lost her shine when she signed up with NINE’s Australia Got Talent when she was still signed by SEVEN for The X Factor. SEVEN in good faith let her out of this year’s The X Factor when she said her daughter’s father would not allow her to come to Australia. It went to court and SEVEN received an injunction to stop Mel B from being a show on AGT.
When Mel B was on Dancing With The Stars she showed she had difficulty with being off the cuff and with the Australian vernacular.
Clearly you need if you are a female in radio you have to be a celebrity and good looking as Rachel Finch is also doing radio over the summer hiatus.
Ros Reines from the Sunday Telegraph wrote this very good article on this issue about how the radio station thought they needed to hire on sex appeal rather than broadcasting talent.
I am bit over the media and TV industry importing mediocre international talent when they should be nurturing local people. Would a Dicko ever be discovered these days? He was an unknown working and living here in the record industry and he was the highlight of Australian Idol.
It will be interesting to see how popular this quartet is. What do you think about it?

A fan of Mel B, Heidi Klum or just like talent shows. Then you can watch America’s Got Talent which is on 6.30pm on Fox 8 on Saturday nights.
Not a bad time for the family to watch.
The other two judges are Howard Stern and Howie Mandel.

Bonnie Anderson a wannabe pop princess gave a masterclass tonight on how to get noticed on the black carpet at the ARIA’s.
Bonnie was a fresh face 12 year old when she won Australia’s Got Talent in 2007 but what do you do six years later when no one knows who you are and have a single to flog?
Well Bonnie and her publicity team worked that black carpet like their lives dependent on it.
First of all have an attention grabbing out fit:
Then take over 80 minutes to walk the 150 metres of the black carpet giving out interviews and getting photographs taken. But the strategy worked she was well and truly noticed and talked about.
Hopefully for her sake it will make her new single a hit.
Here is Bonnie when she was a Australia’s Got Talent
And here is her latest single:

It appears Australian reality TV shows continue to be the training ground for reality TV stars, as Mel B is flicking The X Factor Australia and has signed on as a judge on America’s Got Talent.
I wonder if this means she won’t be doing Dancing With The Stars either. Not that will be a major issue as she did not really connect with the audience in that role.
Well that whole I am having visa issues and that is why she was leaving town in the Daily Telegraph on Monday was a bit of a smoke and mirrors it appears.
America’s Got Talent airs on Fox 8 in the middle of the year, and they are hoping her popularity in Australia may mean people will watch the show.
The other judges on America’s Got Talent are Howard Stern who is a polarising shock jock, and Howie Mandel.
It is an easier gig as she does not have to mentor just judge.

America’s Got Talent is a surprisingly entertaining show. The local version here is not one of my favourite programs, but the US version has a lot of energy and pizazz to it.
This is due to the cast of judges Howard Stern, Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel, and host Nick Cannon. In fact shock jock Stern is particularly funny.
However when is a million dollars not a million dollars? Well when you win the prize money on this show.
In the credits there was this little gem which showed some very creative accounting:
“The prize, which totals $1,000,000, is payable in a financial annuity over forty years, or the contestant may choose to receive the present cash value of such annuity.”
That is $25,000 a year if you go the annuity and taking the cash up front would clearly mean getting a lot less than the $1 million Not the fortune of cash you thought was being showered down upon you.
And yes I will be ringing the networks on Monday to find out if this creative accounting occurs on our local shows.
America’s Got Talent on Fox 8, Thursday and Friday nights at 7.30pm.
