The Amazing Race Australia – Application Deadline Has Been Extended

If you thought it was too late to apply for the Australian version of The Amazing Race you are wrong as the deadline to apply has been extended until the 17 September.

The reasoning is there has been overwhelming interest. I also read in a Sunday Paper that Phil Keoghan might be the actual host. That I cannot believe, but hell getting the one eyebrow raise from him at the pit stop would be sensational.

Anyway interested in applying then head over Good luck.

While we are waiting for the Australian version, I hope Channel 7 will whet our appetite by showing the upcoming US version of the show. TV Tonight has the cast for the season 17 of this iconic reality show. There doesn’t look like they have cast any beauty queens or gay couple this time around, which is disappointing, but I am sure there will be some crackerjack teams.

We were talking about this last night and agreed we would be the worst couple ever – which wold probably give us an edge with getting on the show. However neither of us feels up to that level of public humiliation!

Sam Newman for host.
With Stephanie Rice as co-host.
And Matt Newtown as charge d’affaires.
That’ll keep the diversity up.

Hey RR, you shouldn’t be telling us about the extended deadline if you’ve applied!! Did u actually apply? Wow you could get to hang with Phil. I really hope they show the next US season. I enjoyed the re-runs over the last couple of months on SevenTw0, even though I’d already seen them.

Is it just me or does that make no sense? I would have thought if there’d been overwhelming interest, there’d be no need to extend the deadline…

It would be fabulous if Phil hosted!

5 Izobel2 { 09.08.10 at 12:15 pm }

I agree Injera. Surely there are too many applicants to choose from… Maybe they’re still looking for the special Aussie “frat” boys, and the barbies, and the token dating couple that hate each other, and the token gay couple and the 200 year old happily married couple.

6 Wurstsemmel { 09.08.10 at 7:58 pm }

It would be great if the host was Phil but I won’t hold my breath.

Didn’t you and Injera apply together? Or was I imagining that?

I’m sure I read an interview a few years ago where Phil said he’d lived in Australia for a while in his youth – if he has fond memories of his time here, he might be willing to do it even if it wasn’t a huge paydeal.

I cringe to think of some of the antics the Australian contestants will get up to on the show. That was why the American version was so good (for me) – it’s much more fun to see people acting as culturally insensitive douchebags in far-off lands when you’re not associated to the contestants by being from the same country.

Skye you should apply.

Culinary Boner – LOL

Izobel2 – I didn’t apply, I don’t think I qualify.

Injera – I agree I was confused as well.

anonnymouse – good point will we be tarred by the same brush

The only explaination of the extended deadline is they didn’t get as many applications as they wanted — regardless of what they are saying about pleas for more time and the office being filled to capacity with postal bags. Further it was extended the morning after the original deadline so they couldn’t have looked at all the aps they did get. I reckon Tuesday morning they looked at the pile and went, right, not big enough lets extend the deadline.

Having applied I’ll say the bar is pretty high — the application is long and both members have to fill it in by hand, you have to produce a video and several photos; you have to be available to travel for up to five weeks sometime between now and December. I reckon thousands of people looked at it thought it was too much trouble.

It would be so very cool if Phil hosted, of course, and completly apalling if Ben Cousins does (rumoured as a possibility).

“you have to produce a video”
Plenty of reality TV wannabees have done that in the past.
How grainy do they want this video?

11 Pkaz1973 { 09.10.10 at 7:24 am }

Sziszi : I can confirm they haven’t viewed all applications. I know of at least two that were sent before the original date that have yet to be picked up from the post office so there must be an overwhelming number for them to get through.

12 Fitzy { 09.12.10 at 12:26 pm }

when do you think they will call the lucky few teams for interviews?

13 Pkaz1973 { 09.12.10 at 1:11 pm }

Correction: Apparently the production team have been collecting all applications daily – Australia Post haven’t been scanning all items so several of those sent with Premium Tracking appear as though they are awaiting collection, I’ve been assured they have been delivered.

Not sure when interviews will be held – love to hear from anyone that decisions have been made though – not too nice that there is no date for the unsuccessful to know that they have been.

14 Fitzy { 09.12.10 at 1:19 pm }

yes would be good if they said something along the lines of ” if you dont hear from us after ( a specified date) you have been unsuccessful.”

if anyone happens to find out any information, i would love to hear.

15 Reality Raver { 09.12.10 at 5:14 pm }

Considering they said filming could begin in October, they must be contacting people pretty soon after close of applications. If you haven’t heard anything by the end of October I would forget about it.

16 AT { 09.12.10 at 10:10 pm }

If Phil is the host, I hope he gets to use his Kiwi accent 😀

17 Reality Raver { 09.12.10 at 10:50 pm }

AT – Too funny. LMAO

18 Stacey { 09.15.10 at 2:23 pm }

Yeah I would love to know when we can assume we aren’t successful. I am reckoning by mid october at the latest.
I’ve sent mine off and now just wait to be called!!!

19 Lady P { 09.23.10 at 4:30 pm }

Yep I’ve applied too !! Where I work now say they are going to ring up and tell them NOT to pick me !! I am working on almost a week to commitment – I want to shout PICK ME PICK ME, surely the world needs to see the ** yeard old Nana with her 19yrs younger lover!

20 Ric { 10.01.10 at 8:39 pm }

Another Australian reality television program that is RIGGED!! The casting agent had all of her friends in for interviews..Or friends of friends..So basically all of us thousands that applied wasted our time..I won’t be watching.. Unfair and wrong on all levels!! LETS BOYCOTT The Amazing Race Australia..

21 Em { 10.01.10 at 9:00 pm }

Where did you find that out?

22 Reality Raver { 10.02.10 at 5:26 pm }

Ric – have you found out your application has been unsuccessful

23 Lady P { 10.03.10 at 10:10 am }

Ric – is that true!! shall I stop trying to get fit. How do we know they are casting. We’ve heard nothing – but then they specified u wouldn’t hear if u weren’t successful! Bugger !

24 Pkaz1973 { 10.03.10 at 12:23 pm }

In Facebook, search for The Amazing Race Australia, select the site with 700 odd members, then click on the link The Amazing Race + Others near the top – interesting reading :(

25 Reality Raver { 10.03.10 at 8:24 pm }

Pkazi1973 – can you cut and paste the link I cannot find the facebook group

26 Pkaz1973 { 10.03.10 at 8:33 pm }

There are a whole heap of posts on this site but this is the one that got most people talking. Check out the others too.

27 Someone { 10.08.10 at 8:07 am }

You can’t believe everything you hear…. If someone actually did get called, there’s no way they’d tell anyone as they are not supposed to (the application itself says you’re not even supposed to tell anyone about your participation in the audition), and that could ruin their chances of actually being on the show. I bet it’s a hoax. Also, don’t know if this is real either, but here’s for some interesting viewing:

28 tammy carruthers { 05.21.11 at 1:11 pm }

can i please have enter the amazing race next?
if so how do i get a form?

29 AnonyMousse { 05.21.11 at 3:39 pm }

Tammy, as far as I’ve heard a second season of the Australian Amazing Race hasn’t been confirmed yet (and probably won’t be until the Channel 7 managers are satisfied that the first season is showing it can be profitable, which will likely take at least a few more aired episodes to give a picture of viewer numbers) – I’m sure once a greenlight is given for another season, they’ll advertise on where to apply on the tv, just like they’ve been doing for My Kitchen Rules recently. They’ll also probably announce it on their twitter feed – #amazingraceaus
