The X Factor – More Controversy But About Guy Sebastian

Just when you thought The X Factor couldn’t get anymore controversial there are now allegations that Guy Sebastian is displaying favouritism on the show. Guy Sebastian’s female back-up singers have entered The X Factor as an all girl group, with other contestant’s raising this conflict with the producers.

The Sunday Telegraph writes:

Well, this columnist has learned that among those being “helped” by Sebastian is a group he knows quite well – his back-up singers, The Roquettes.

According to a disillusioned production member, Sebastian has championed the all-girl quartet – who have adopted the name Mahogany for the televised competition – from the outset, putting them through the program’s initial stages.

“Just how this isn’t a conflict of interest, I really don’t know,” the source said last week.

It was claimed another contestant had raised the issue with producers. Their alleged response? To “simply ignore” the obvious, namely that Sebastian’s professional relationship with the group called into question judging on The X Factor.

A Seven spokesperson confirmed the presence of Mahogany in the lavish production but denied a conflict of interest.

“Our judges are some of the most established in the business. We would not consider it unusual for their paths to have crossed while working in the Australian music industry.

“Our judges have made their decisions based purely on the performances given during The X Factor competition.”

I will reserve judgement on this one until I have seen the show, however if he is mentoring the groups it would be very unfair.

I don’t know what the big deal is, I saw them perform at Guys tour they did a few shows on one tour they were ok but no stars, Guy didn’t use them again, Guy said when they auditioned he had worked with them, he can not control who auditions if this is the only “controversy” they can find on Guy he is doing well, if they got through boot camp and made the finals I will be shocked.

It’s amazing how one so-called ‘journalist’ will do a beat-up and everyone else jumps on board as if it’s fact. These girls are NOT Guy’s backup singers. Guy doesn’t even have regular backup singers – he varies his stage lineup. Mahogany (or Roquettes) did some 5-6 shows with Guy in February. That was the only time he used them.

most half decent singers in this industry all work with one another or cross paths at some point
no advantage is the public don’t like them…they’re either good and on par with others similar to them or fantastic and blow every other act out of the water

Joan, Phoebe and Bella Vita, considering the standards of the groups last night were poor they might stand out.

That Don’t Stop Believing must be worried

Guy’s biggest problem is that he produces more cheese than New Zealand.

What u saw of the groups was poor but their was slot of real talent in the groups that was NOT shown! Positions the viewers to like certain groups it’s all tv

Brain Dead Dave – LOL I still think guy is the one to have as the mentor.

Anon – agree it is all tv, I could barely recognise three of the under 25 girls that got through to the top 6.

These girls have been performing as Mahogany for years. I’d say they chose a different name for the BV gig BECAUSE they are not Mahogany when they’re backing Guy.

Seriously? back up singers who’ve recently become ‘mahogany’? these girls have been mahogany since 2003. Before that, they were another group going by their last name. These sisters are bloody unreal. Ever since they were young girls they’ve out-performed everyone they’ve contested against. As for Faye, congrats missy! Thanks for making all those year 10 maths lessons bearable. Good luck with the rest of the show. As for the journo who wrote the article, you guys love BS-ing about things you know very little about.. oh wait, thats right, you write for the daily telegraph. No wonder..
