The X Factor – Boot Camp And Judges Are Allocated Their Groups

No wonder the under 25 guys were forgetting their lines when they were singing to try and get into the next stage of The X Factor as Kyle Sandliand had the very stunning DJ Havana Brown helping him to whittle down his singers.

It is a wonder the boys didn’t have the same issue, and embarrassing moment that Steve had in The X Factor auditions in the UK last year. See clip below.

Natalie Imbruglia predictably got the under 25’s females, and I was rather amused that Hayley Teale gushed “She’ll be able to teach me how to be a star!”

I thought Natalie probably had the group with the most talent and maybe that is why she put through 13 girls to bootcamp. The leading contenders to get to the live show, based on the amount of airtime they have received are Sally Chatfield, India-Rose Madderom, Hayley Teale, and Nicole Kenaway. All of of them have great voices.

I thought Ronan Keating pulled the short straw when he got the over 25 group which had a diverse range of people in it but no one at this stage who looks like a potential contender. Mark Plunkett, Ronan’s manager was there to help sort who should go through and apart from Amanda Grafanakis it must of been hard for them to fill the spots.

Amanda made it to the top 24 of Australian Idol in 2008 but she was peroxide then.

Someone who probably would have thought Australian Idol was the death of rock music, Alytian Childs, has now decided The X Factor is his last chance at “making it”.  The 35 year old forklift driver predictably sang INXS’s Never Tear Us Apart, to go with his Michael Hutchene moves. But also predictably he forgot the words. Ronan looked suitably unimpressed, however he was put through to the next stage, because he makes such good TV.

James McNally and the ever amusing former Ukraine pop singer Yuliya Rai also were into boot camp. Also forklift driver from Perth Tony Munnings looks like he could be seen on the live shows as he has been getting airtime as well. Yes it was sad that Karl who has overcome mouth cancer did not make it through, but let’s face it his singing was just not good enough.

Guy Sebastian appeared unsettled at first at having the groups, but with the help of Thirsty Merc frontman Rai Thistlewaite he became more enthusiastic about his charges.

I am still not sure if I think it is fair that Guy’s former back up singers,Mahogany, are being mentored by him. I wonder what the other groups will think about it, as I will be surprised if they don’t make the live shows. Other groups I hope make the live shows are Jahmaking It Funky, Rheeonya (I agree with Guy, change your name), and Lazy Z & Big Guy.

Kyle with the under 25 guys has the potential winner in his group but they were not on their A game tonight. Chris Doe was a highlight with his version of a Jet song, I know DJ Havana likes his hair but I hate it.

Also Daniel Conway 21 just needs to tell Kyle he is not a stoner. Kyle is dubious about whether he will turn up or not. However he found a fan in Havana who loved his look as she thought he had an image. An incredulous Kyle responded “What? With a $2.00 scarf wrapped around his head?”.

Andrew Lawson was dull after his great performance with the Sinatra song in Brisbane, and needs to step it up big time.

By the end of tomorrow night’s episode we will have our live show contestants and the serious part of the competition will commence.

You refer to ‘Guy’s former backup singers’ as if he had some regular relationship with him. They supported him on one very short 5-gig tour last February and did backup for some of his songs. They’re not ‘his’. I think it’s unfair of you to want them excluded from their chance at getting a break just because they’ve crossed paths with Guy in the past.

Sally – Several times last night the voice over person said that Mahogany had been Guy’s back up singers. At no stage have I said they should be excluded. In the above post I have said I am not sure if it is fair that they should be mentored by Guy considering he is the one to decide whether they should make the group section of the live shows.

I am opening it up for discussion to readers to get their opinion, and obviously you think that there is no conflict of interest and that is fine.

If I were any of the under-25 guys, I’d be pissed off with having Kyle and Havana as my judges. What does Havana bring to the table (except for looks and hence ratings) or Kyle (who couldn’t even get his wife a stellar singing carreer)?

To have my dreams and possible future in their hands, I wouldn’t be happy. I just wonder off camera, how many guys though this and left the bootcamp on their own free will.

Was it just me, or did Kyle look hungover on last night’s show?

Ben – apparently he does not drink, however I thought he could have been jet lagged or just tired from the early starts for radi0.

S Kay – well Kyle got lucky getting the boys, it will be interesting to see him put his money where his mouth is. I am curious to see what sort of advice he is going to give them.

Do we actually know Mahogany were mentored by Guy prior to going on the show? And if so, when? The first time I saw this story it said they were Guy’s backing vocalists, present tense (which is totally untrue) , and it’s been parroted all over the place. Media have probably turned the voting public against these girls, who would deserve a good shot at winning. Such a shame.

Totally disagree re Mahogany winning no chance saw them perform live they have 0 X Factor nice singing group but does OZ need another young diva group plus they are up themselves, Guy is wasting a spot if they go on the live shows.
